Super Academy is a comedy/action superhero webseries, based on the short film of the same name, created by Minnesota director, Ben Lifson.
In a world where superpowers are commonplace, being a superhero has become accepted as a valid career choice. In this world, there is a university called “Super Academy”, where young heroes are trained in controlling their powers, and how to apply them towards their careers. This involves hands on experience; fighting villains, tutelage in abilities, and studying of techniques.
The original film can be viewed here:
The original film follows a group of students who attend The Super Academy - the world's premier college for superhero training.
Powerkid is a shy freshman with super strength, whose cheerful demeanor masks a dark secret: that he is the son of a world famous super villain. He came to this school to start a new life, and his greatest fear is the rejection he would face if the truth of his past were discovered.
Dark Cop is an anti-social super genius with ego issues. Lacking a verbal filter, he never hesitates to speak his mind about anyone or anything, firm in his belief that a painful truth is always preferable to a comforting lie.
Plus, he has some sick fighting moves:
Together, they create a formidable team of brain and brawn.
Chaotrix is Powerkid's villianous sister. A master hacker, martial artist and stealth expert, she covets nothing more than approval from her supervillian father, and to ensure Powerkid pays for his betrayal of their family.
The series will feature two new heroes:
Glyph is a magic wielding upperclassman, able to invoke upon arcane forces using her magic quill to inscribe eldritch symbols. A shrewd tactician and part time tutor for Powerkid, she can be reserved when on the job, but is quite sociable in her free time.
Corona is a hyperactive alien exchange student, wielding powerful telepathic and telekinetic powers. She is fascinated by the exotic customs and cultures of Earth, and would rather be found at a party than in a classroom.
These four students will face challenges and have fun just like any other college student. Well, if college students had super powers and access to cool crime fighting gadgets, that is. Internships are replaced by crime-fighting missions and facing villains can be a final exam. Super Academy is at once both familiar and fantastic.
You will be funding THREE NEW EPISODES that will debut in a serial format. Each will be 15-20 minutes and will combine to tell a fun and exciting story arc.
(Note: if we hit $11k, we will ad a FOURTH episode. See Stretch Goals)
The money will be used to pay industry professionals a competitive wage, costumes, equipment rental, set insurance, location fees, craft services and transportation fees.
A large portion of the budget will also go to post-production, where our team will mix sound, add special effects and edit the footage into a complete project.
As indie filmmakers we know how to stretch each dollar - but we still need cash to get the job done. To deliver you a professional final product, we need the money to get the professionals and tools required to ensure the quality you deserve.
We may have reached our initial goal of $8000, but our campaign is far from over. There are still plenty of ways we can make the series even better, through STRETCH GOALS. At the end of our campaign, if the total exceeds these goals, we will be able to include more content, including:
$9,000: USE OF "JERK VEST" FOR STUNTS:
Should this be reached, we will be able to pay for the use of a "Jerk Vest", a special tool that will allow us to do WIRE-BASED STUNTS. This will allow us to make everything more action-packed, as well as allowing us to show our hero's powers in ways that would be impossible otherwise.
$11,000: ADDITIONAL EPISODE OF SUPER ACADEMY:
We will be making a FOURTH episode of Super Academy: The Series, as opposed to three, allowing us to tell more Super Academy adventures!

All submissions must be PG-13 and realistic to create a costume for. Furthermore, while you are encouraged to provide backstory, they must have no prior relationship to one of the main characters (So, no "Dark Cop's long lost twin")

But you already did a Kickstarter? What is this?
Our first Kickstarter fell short of its goal. And as an All or Nothing funding platform we left that campaign with zero money. But the outpouring of support showed us there is a demand for a quality independent Superhero webseries and we plan to do deliver. We have regrouped and created a new strategy we believe will be successful in delivering you the entertainment you want.
You are asking for less money this time, what has changed?
While the characters and the main story arc are the same, we have trimmed out the non-essential arc episodes. Our original plan was to deliver you eight-ten 10 minute episodes. We have streamlined this into three 15-20 minutes episodes. Filming three rather than eight-ten shorts will save us time and money - but still allow us to tell the original story arc we scripted. We have lost some of the one-off episodes we have written - but we still get the entire story arc in at a lower budget. This repackaging of the story arc allows us to still produce the same high quality final project we planned the first time because of shorter shooting times (which reduced the cost of equipment rentals, craft service fees and more).
I backed the first Kickstarter for the Series do I get a bonus?
Hell yes! We are happy to introduce the DOUBLE BACKER BONUS REWARD!
All repeat backers from last fall's Kickstarter will automatically get the digital download of the soundtrack and complete first season one month early. You get this in addition to any other reward you select. We will also add all six Collectible Cards for free to all repeat backers who pledge $30 or more. We thank you for supporting us from the very beginning and these are our gifts to you.
THIS PROJECT SOUNDS COOL! HOW DO I HELP?
Why, thank you! There are several things you can do to help us.
1. Make a donation in any size (even a dollar is a big help for us). You can change your donation amount anytime before the campaign ends and you will not be charged anything unless we meet our goal.
2. After you back us and complete your transaction, Kickstarter will give you the option to send a message to your followers/friends on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. The message will say you just backed our project (you can customize this message) and get the word out to your social media circles. This will be a huge help to us and it only takes a few seconds.
3. Find another friend, family member, gamer or anyone to make a donation as well. Even if it is just $1 they can get access to our Behind The Scenes content.
4. Applaud yourself for helping independent cinema flourish in tough times, and for helping dedicated filmmakers achieve their dream. We seriously appreciate your help!
