Over the last few years I've been building up a body of work with the intention of creating a full-length album. The title track of the album in progress is called Family History, and this theme runs through the entire record. There are stories in these songs about marriage, about place, and about hope. These stories form broken histories and fluid images of what I imagine as a very large family.
Last November, I started working with Wendell Kimbrough, a good friend and fellow musician. We spent a lot of time together working on song arrangements and we began to record. Recently I took some time off work. We spent time in the studio and we also traveled to Baltimore to record guitar and lap steel tracks.
We are now more than halfway finished with this record! We've worked with lots of great musicians, and I'm very excited about the progress we've made so far. We are hoping to release the album early in 2013. Throughout this process I've been investing my own money and money I've made at shows.
In order to finish, I need your help. I still need to pay for more studio time, musicians, mixing, mastering, and disc production. My goal is to raise $5000 in the month of September. This is the minimum amount that I need to successfully fund finishing this project, and to send you the rewards.
Here is the way I've estimated out the costs of finishing the album: I think the remaining studio time and sound engineering will cost me anywhere between $1300 and $1500. Mixing the album will cost $1000 - $2000. Mastering will be around $1000. Disc production will cost around $1200. Paying musicians will cost $500 - $800. If I can, I'd also like to spend some money on promoting the album after the release.
Check out the rewards, and I hope that you'll consider joining our team. Thanks for supporting this new album. I'm looking forward to sharing it with you.
