About this project
Benign Kingdom is a creator-owned publishing project designed to showcase the art of independent comic creators. It was founded by Evan Dahm (Rice Boy), Becky Dreistadt & Frank Gibson (Tiny Kitten Teeth), KC Green (Gunshow), and Yuko Ota & Ananth Panagariya (Johnny Wander), with assistance by George Rohac (GRohac). In the Spring of 2012 it released 4 high quality art books and a collected hardcover featuring Evan, Becky, KC, and Yuko’s work.
In the Fall of 2012 they followed this up with another collection featuring the work of Emmy Cicierega (www.emmyc.com) Anthony Clark (Nedroid) Danielle Corsetto (Girls with Slingshots) Aaron Diaz (Dresden Codak). This, too, was well received.
So we're pleased to debut -
Emily Carroll - emcarroll.com
Gigi D.G. - cucumber.gigidigi.com
Tyson Hesse - boxerhockey.com
Phil McAndrew - philintheblanks.com
As with the prior seasons our goal is to produce an individual art book for each artist but also manufacture a hardcover edition that collects all four of their individual books in one beautiful collection.
If you back this Kickstarter you're saving upwards of 34% off the regular retail price we will be selling them at.
Since we met our goal we have a Push Scroll of new Goals to hit to make the books and rewards even better!
Additionally if we make our goal we intend to have -
If this is successful we will debut early copies of this collection at the EMERALD CITY COMICON March 1-3 in Seattle, WA. The quantities of Spring 2013 we will have at the show will be very limited, since the bulk shipment will not be delivered until Mid-Late March, so we cannot let backers pick up at the show. We feel bad about that so we'll have the backer list at the show and if you are a backer and swing by our booth we'll be giving away a special print JUST to backers as an added thank you!
Benign Kingdom would like to thank Hannah Lee Stockdale for making all the graphics on this Kickstarter page.
The music in the video was graciously supplied and performed by Brian Fukushima.
Risks and challenges
We're prepping files now in anticipation this will go well.
We've got a printer locked in, and we'll be going to the plant to do a press check this time to assure we have no problems with the quality.
We've got staff and supplies ready for shipping and even given ourselves a few extra weeks for delivery since our team will be traveling for conventions during March.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The only way to get a signed copy is backing a tier that has a bookplate. That will be signed by all the artists of this series.
As a company owned and operated by creators we give a majority of the profits from the books to the creators. The amount left over has to be used for the tens of thousands of dollars in shipping, supplies, labor, and taxes.
Sorry, we can't let you choose which book to you get during the Kickstarter as we're trying to fund the publication of ALL the books.
