Hello friends! My name is Ben Hill and I'm finally working on my first EP! I can't do this without your help though, so I hope that you will join me through this Kickstarter campaign as I try to raise $1000 to make this EP and release it.
I've been a musician for over a decade, and I've played drums and keyboard for various bands and projects during my years living in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Ohio. I've loved every project I've worked on, but I never had the opportunity to really create something for myself and put my own voice into a music project.
That has changed though. I went to college in Nashville to study audio engineering, and during that time I really started getting into rap, and producing my own beats. Let me tell you, the first few beats and raps I made were garbage! But I kept at it, and really started to improve and create my own style. So that brings me to today, where I have four songs written that I'm really proud of!
So Ben, what are your songs about?
I'm glad you asked! These songs are simply an honest reflection of my life during various seasons, and deal with themes such as insecurity, self-worth, putting things into perspective, the meaning of life, and other similarly chill topics!
The EP's title "Letting Go" comes from a sense of letting go of the insecurities that have prevented me from making this EP for years. The lyrics have a lot to say about where we as a culture place our value and sense of worth. My sense of worth comes from Jesus, and while this isn't a "Christian rap" EP, my hope is that everyone will find it relatable and get a positive message from it.
Oh by the way, the title track "Letting Go" features my incredibly talented friend Meg Mischler, and you do NOT want to miss the rare chance to hear her vocals on a rap song!
So friends, will you join me in this musical journey? Your support means the world to me, and any amount you donate is significant, whether it is $1 or $1000. I seriously can't wait for you all to hear these songs! I've been cooking them up in secret for far too long.
Risks and challenges
Well if next President bans hip-hop I guess this EP won't come out... (knock on wood).
But really, the mastering, album art, etc. requires money. I'm currently in my hometown, weeks away from a move to London, England for grad school. That requires a LOT of money, which leaves very little in my own pocket. If this Kickstarter doesn't get fully funded, you get totally refunded, but I can't afford to pay my mastering engineer and other people involved to get this EP finished and released.
That said, I've already done 80% of the work on production, vocal tracking, and rough mixes! The final mixes will take some time, especially with me gearing up to move to London, but I am confident that the mastering process will be smooth once the mixes are done. I'm aiming for a November release.
