Inaugural Beer Release!

Greetings everyone,

We did it!  Bemidji Brewing Company successfully released its first commercial keg last Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Brigid's Pub in downtown Bemidji.  It was a hit and we sold out of all of our kegs in just a few hours!  It was great to celebrate the milestone with friends, family and Kickstarter backers.  Thank you all for helping make this possible.  It has been quite a journey, but it was worth it as we installed our very own tap handle and poured that first beer.

With the release of our first beer, a dry-hopped pale ale, Bemidji Brewing is now an operating brewery.  We are currently tiny, but we have big plans.  We hope that you will continue to follow and support Bemidji Brewing and craft beer and please, stay in touch!

Thank you again for your support from everyone at Bemidji Brewing--cheers to you!

Green light to brew!

Greetings Backers,

All of us at Bemidji Brewing are very excited to announce that we have cleared all of our federal and state licensing and inspections and we have the green light to brew!  With that exciting news comes a few final preparations for our first brew day at Harmony's Community Kitchen, which we plan for early this next week.  We will be sure to keep you all updated on when and where the first beer(s) will be available for you to get your hands on--which you can expect to happen within a month or so (due to the nature of the brewing process).  Remember, our brewing system is pretty tiny, nano-sized in fact, so the beer will only be available on tap at one, maybe two locations in downtown Bemidji--we hope to some day be able to quench the thirst of all of northern Minnesota on a larger microbrewery system at our own location.  Dream big, start small.

In the meantime, look for more updates on our facebook page regarding merchandise for sale and upcoming events.  And for all of our Innaugural Keg-Party backers, we will be in touch soon regarding dates, times and locations for that event.  We can't wait to chat with you all over a Bemidji Beer!

And in case you missed it, here's the link to the nice blog post about Bemidji Brewing from David Duffey with

And below we've posted a few fun pics of our fermentation fridge and keg cage move-in day at Harmony that took place a couple of weeks ago.  All a part of the fun of starting a brewery--you never know what each day will bring!

Thank you all again for your support of Bemidji Brewing--it has been an amazing journey thus far and we hope you stick around for the rest of the ride.

Federal Approval!!

Greetings Backers,

We have some exciting news:  our Brewer's Notice that we submitted to the Federal government (TTB) way back in mid-May has been approved--hurray!  That means we can move on to the State of MN licensing, which, from what we've heard, is a much quicker process.  That also means that we are getting everything ready for inspections so that as soon as we get approved we can begin brewing.

We have also done a few interviews lately regarding our progress toward launching the nanobrewery out of Harmony Co-op's Community Kitchen--a quick interview with Lakeland Public Television and with (to be published in September or so).

As always, we will continue to keep you updated on our progress--we are almost there!  And feel free to contact us with any questions:

Thank you again for your continued support of Bemidji Brewing and craft beer.

Bemidji Brewing Team Assemble!

Greetings everyone!

We hope this message finds you all enjoying your summer.  We have a few exciting happenings to report as well as an update on our progress towards launching the nanobrewery that you helped fund.

A very recent development that we are super excited about is that as of this past Friday, ALL of the the Bemidji Brewing team now calls Bemidji home.  It has been a long time coming, especially since when our first idea of starting a brewery was hatched, we were all scattered across the country--from Rhode Island to Texas and up to Alaska.  And since then, we've lived in Montana and Minnesota!  But finally, we can all call Bemidji home and really hit the ground running.  For the last 2.5 years we have tackled the challenges of being geographically separated by utilizing Skype for meetings, Google Docs for sharing files and information and have taken turns commuting for intense work weekends-- but there is no doubt that we all look forward to working in-person to get everything off the ground.  It is a very exciting time for us all.

We would also like to report on our progress wrapping up Kickstarter: we are almost there!  On June 2, 2012 we hosted our Beer Dinner for backers at the Harmony Co-op's Community Kitchen.  It was a great event with lots of good food, beer and people to share it with.  Check below for a few photos from the event.  And as far as the other items and experiences, we have shipped out what we hope to be all packages (if you did not get yours please email us: and we will be sure to get it straightened out!)  The only things left on the Kickstarter wrap-up are hosting the Keg Party and our Brews Cruises.  We will be able to do those as soon as we are licensed.

Speaking of licensing, we are approaching the end of the approval process with the Federal government.  It is with mixed emotions that we announce that from what the TTB has told us, we are the first brewery in the U.S. to launch in a community kitchen or other shared space.  While it is great to say we're the first, it also means that we are writing the books as we go.  Working out the details with the Federal government and Harmony Co-op's Community Kitchen has been time-consuming, but everyone is doing their best to make this nanobrewery a reality.  We feel confident that we will be wrapping up the TTB process soon and moving onto the State level, which from what we've heard, is a quicker process.  We hope!

And lastly, within the next month or so we are hoping to order a new round of merchandise including t-shirts and glassware.  We are working on a new concept for the tshirts that we are really excited about and think folks will enjoy.  If you are interested in purchasing merchandise, stay tuned to our facebook page for announcements or feel free to contact us for more information.

As always, we hope that you will stay in touch and continue to support Bemidji Brewing and craft beer.

Preparing for Nano Launch!

As promised, we are updating you all on our progress towards launching the Bemidji Brewing Nano system, with pictures too!  Since acquiring and assembling all of the nano equipment we have brewed two test batches, so far so good.  We will be filtering and kegging them in the next week or so.  Each time we brew we discover upgrades and efficiencies to work on for the next batch.  One awesome upgrade we have already made is a stainless steel brew stand that Tom's father welded up for us.  It definitely makes the brew process easier, safer, and more compact--thanks Dennis!  So far we have been test batching in a friend's garage, but will make the move into our new home, The Community Kitchen at Harmony Co-op soon.

We have also submitted our Brewer's Notice and associated paperwork to the TTB (Federal gov) and are now waiting the average 57 days for their approval.  After that we can be inspected by the State of MN and hopefully get the green light to brew commercial batches.  In the meantime we have lots of little projects to keep us busy and should be able to squeeze in another test batch or two.

This week should also see the remainder of the $65 swag packages shipped out--everything looks great and we hope you all enjoy your items!  That leaves only the Deluxe Tasting packages and Experiences such as the Beer Dinner, Keg Party, and Brews Cruises to wrap up.  If you have any questions about your pledge items or experiences, please let us know!

We hope that you will continue to follow and support Bemidji Brewing as we get closer to launching our nano system and releasing our first beers in the Bemidji area.  We will continue to update you on our progress and any upcoming tastings or other events, but  feel free to contact us in the meantime. Oh, and be sure to check out the photos below!  Thank you again for your support of Bemidji Brewing and craft beer.
