WE MADE IT!!!
With everyone's generous support, we reached our Kickstarter goal, and will be able to fund this new commission. It will be premiered at our June 7th concert, alongside other exciting works by Northwest composers. Your support means a new step for the choir - we are now considering this idea of bringing new works to our audiences on a yearly basis. Stay tuned!
You can still donate to our Kickstarter campaign - you will receive all the wonderful rewards we have set up for you, and be part of this great experience. Together we are all making it happen! What is the Commission?
The Bellingham Chamber Chorale is proud to announce a brand-new collaboration with local artists and supporters in the Pacific Northwest, resulting in a concert experience unlike any you have heard in Bellingham before. Here's what we're working hard to create, and we invite you to co-create with us:
• Renowned Northwest poet, Carla Shafer, has written a beautiful poem called "Elixir of the Solar Spectrum” – the natural wonder of the Pacific Northwest is inextricably woven into Shafer's words.
• Reginald Unterseher, Washington State Music Teachers Association Composer of the Year, is creating a brand-new composition based on, and tailored to, Shafer's transcendent poem and the spirit of the Northwest.
• The Bellingham Chamber Chorale, Bellingham's own renowned choir, has brought these two talented artists together to commission a new chorale composition to debut on Saturday, June 7, at our "Northwest Passages" concert. The concert will also feature other works by Northwest composers, and will be very much a show of gratitude in celebration of all the beauty and joy that surrounds and inspires us here in our corner of the country.
Join us to bring this dream to life!
You can become an investor in this wonderful collaboration and help create both the composition and the June 7 concert. BCC choir members, our poet, our composer and Artistic Director Ryan Smit have a vision that we are passionately committed to - but we need your help to bring it all to life. We are reaching out to friends like you to help us reach our $3,000 goal. All gifts, large and small, will be used to fund the writing and recording of the commission. As you may know, the BCC is entirely not-for-profit and volunteer-driven; supporters' donations help us hire local musicians, buy repertoire, rent venues and present high quality concerts to our diverse audiences at affordable prices. This time we are doing something very novel to achieve our goal: we've created a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the Commission.
What is Kickstarter and how is the BCC working with this service?
For those of you who aren't familiar with Kickstarter, it's a form of "crowdfunding," where we offer a product at the finish line, and you help us fund it until we reach that finish line. Our Kickstarter campaign will be accepting your donations for one month ONLY, from February 18th to March 18th. Everybody wins, because no matter how much you choose to donate - be it $1 or $1000 - you will help us reach our $3,000 goal and receive tangible benefits based on the amount of your pledge.
We have worked to create rewards with real meaning for our donors, and we are excited to bring them to you. But there is a caveat to Kickstarter’s terms! Every fundraising effort on Kickstarter faces the same constraint... we only receive the pledges if we reach our goal. So, if we reach $2,975 on March 18 and YOU haven't made your $25 donation yet, we lose the whole campaign. All pledges will return to donors and we will remain unfunded.
So what are you waiting for? Make your pledge today, and be part of this wonderful project!
Risks and challenges
We will have a little bit of a delay from when the track is recorded to when we are able to finish CD printing and mailing - but aside from this delay, we anticipate all rewards sent out on a smooth timeline. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out at firstname.lastname@example.org - thank you so much!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
