About this project

Update 1/13/11

"I can say without a doubt, the film will be beautiful, moving and something we can all be very proud of being a part of. " -Sam Nuttmann, Director, in a letter to the cast and crew.

What is the film about?

Hygiene obsessed and mentally childlike Whitney accidentally stows away on a cross-country bus. Overnight, she invades the personal space and eventually the personal life of Laurie, who is escaping an unhappy marriage. Laurie and Whitney are at crucial points in their lives, and neither has a soul to care for them. Both girls are rejects and runaways, unknowingly desperate to find someone they can trust and connect to. Whitney finds someone who won't discard her, and Laurie finds someone who needs her. {Watch our behind the scenes video!}

Why Kickstarter?

Connect To is so close to being done, but we cannot finish this film without help. It was funded entirely out of pocket, and powered by film-loving volunteers. We really need this last round of funding. I've shaken the change out of my pockets and couch cushions and have sunk the last pennies of my HSA account into getting Connect To made. Now, we need YOU to be involved in our film, to cherish it, nurture it, and watch it grow. To entice you to do just that, I had fun brainstorming fun list of rewards that I hope will delight you! And don't forget to watch the video to see an exclusive scene from the short film.

Also, please support us, absolutely free, by helping us get the word out about this project. Grab the widget and post it on your Facebook page or blog. Link to us on Twitter. Send this to a film loving friend. That would be magical! Getting the word out is the greatest challenge.

Where does the money go?

All funds raised go directly to:
-Outstanding production costs of chartering the bus and renting equipment
-Humble stipends for all the hard-working crew on the film who donated their expertise
-Finishing the post production (edit, score, sound design, color correction need to be finished)
-DVD pressing and promotional materials for festival submissions
-Kickstarter's fees & Amazon's fees

How can I find out more about the film?

Check out these links, especially our Facebook page which is the film's website (for now):

DIRECTOR & DP'S SITE (Past and Current Works)

Can I make a donation as a gift?

YES! That's a great idea, especially for someone who loves film. Just go through the normal donation process and pay under your name with Amazon Payments. After the film is funded, I will contact you via Kickstarter asking for your address and other pertinent information. Indicate in your reply who you want the gift to go to and I will make sure that person receives the reward.

Can I increase my donation once it’s been made?

YES! You can change your donation at any time before the funding deadline.

Can we exceed the donation goal?

YES! There is no limit on the amount of donations the film can receive. If that happens, I will unlock a special perk for all backers of the film. It would be truly amazing to beat our goal. It would allow us to pay the crew more, and help recoup our out of pocket costs.

When will I receive my rewards?

Rewards will be sent soon after the project is funded, except for the Youtube poems, which may go out any time during the campaign!

What happens if the money isn’t raised in time?

Unfortunately, if we don't meet our fundraising goal no money changes hands, no credit cards are charged and no rewards are sent out. But I very much hope that's not the case and I'll do everyting in my power to make sure that doesn't happen!

Is my donation tax deductible?

Unfortunately, no. We are neither a charitable nor tax exempt organization. But you are helping the film in a meaningful way and you get some cool gifts for participating.

How do we contact you?

You can contact me via email directly: bellawonder [at] gmail [dot] com. Or find me on Twitter, Feel free to ask me any questions and I promise I will get back to you.

So where'd this idea come from?

Sometimes a great role comes along and you hitch your star to it. "Make your own art," was my 2010 mantra. As an actor, I realize that it's not enough to wait for opportunities to come; I have to make my own. This short film began over a year ago as a scene written for Lisa and I in our Master's Acting class, directed by Steven Anderson ( We workshopped it for months, culminating in two performances at the Meta Theatre and the Secret Rose Theatre in L.A. as part of an annual actor's showcase: a pretty big deal for two girls from Seattle. Our Acting teacher suggested that this scene would make a great short film. It's got all the winning qualities: heart, conflict, and compelling characters.

Laurie and Whitney are amazing women. They are fun and challenging to play, and an honor to embody characters that aren't just the hot girlfriend, the BFF/sidekick, the naive ingenue. Not that those aren't fun, but they can be so damn typical! :) Laurie and Whitney kick this stereotype to the curb. They are rejects, runaways. Cross-country drifters. Lovers, fighters. A closet smoker and a classical music enthusiast. Unlikely friends. And never far from wet wipes.
