About this project
Galaxy bats came into this world in October 2014 and caused quite a stir. They are, by far, my most popular product and the demand has far outweighed my ability to produce them. They've been flying off the proverbial shelves as fast as I can make them. Many people have expressed disappointment with the limited supply and higher prices inherent to handmade items.
My solution? Manufacturing! I've reached out to Shinedown Productions, a company known for working with artists to create small batch designer artist plushies. With their help I've had a sample produced. It has been made to mimic my original design as closely as possible and has the same floppy wings, big ears, and sitting pose that made my bats so popular. Oh, and the lovely nebula fabric as well!
The galaxy bat plush is approximately 6 inches tall, 2.5 inches wide, and has a 12.5 inch wingspan. It is made of super soft minky with weighted pellets in its bum, and custom silk screened fabric in the ears and wings.
Here's where you come in. I need your help to bring these galaxy bats into our world. The goal of $7,000 will allow me to start production on the bats and cover their shipping to the US.
In addition to the plushies, I've also created a few cute little galaxy bat items for backers in matching designs and I will be offering limited handmade bats in custom color combinations.
Risks and challenges
I have over 3 years of experience creating and shipping products. I have sent thousands of plushies to customers in every US state as well as over 40 countries worldwide. This is my first time in the world of manufacturing and Kickstarter, but I am working with the company Shinedown Productions which has been the choice of companies for many great, successful Kickstarters and has a history of excellent customer service. Together, I believe we can tackle any serious issues that may arise in the manufacturing process.
Many of my rewards are handmade including the pinback buttons, printed pillows, and handmade versions of the bats. I am a one person operation so personal injury or family emergency may delay production. There may also be delays in manufacturing or shipping that are out of my control.
No matter the cause, backers will be always notified of any major delays!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
If you'd like to add on a pillow, add $16 for US backers or $24 for international (they add quite a bit of weight).
If you'd like to add on a manufactured bat, please add $25 to your order (Please note this additional bat will be treated as a pre-order and will not come with the pin and sticker set. If you would like several sets of pins and stickers, please purchase a tier with multiple bats rather than purchase a bat as an addon)
If you'd like to add a sticker set or a pinback button set, add $5 to your order or $7 for both.
If you would like to add a small pillow, add $5 to your order.
No, they wont! Because the inner wings and ears are made with a patterned fabric, the pattern will be subtly simple on each bat. If you look at the sample images, there are actually 2 different bats shown. The sample I have an an earlier version (whose eyes were slightly crooked so it was remade. Don't worry, your bat wont have crooked eyes!).
You can see the wings for each are sightly different.
Once the project is finished I will send out surveys to collect any extra information including the color options for the custom bats and confirmation of what items you'd like if you added on extra money for a reward.
Sorry, I have no plans to do so. These were always intended as a limited options and the number was set at a number I feel comfortable producing in the time frame given.
Unfortunately no. While I like and support many animal charities, Kickstarter rules state, "Projects can’t fundraise for charity, offer financial incentives, or involve prohibited items.
We’re all in favor of charity and investment, but they’re not permitted on Kickstarter. Projects can’t promise to donate funds raised to a charity or cause."
