The current design and prototype does block accessibility to the headphone jack. The clip on the production design for the Roku model will be slightly lowered from the photos shown to ensure adequate clearance to the volume buttons.
Our preliminary research of Roku remote users told us that the percentage of people that use the headphone option is low. Our focus group was in agreement that the ease of disconnecting Sideclick from the Roku when headphones are in use wouldn't deter them in terms of purchase and use.
Prior to our campaign launch, we conceptualized a Sideclick for the Roku that had its own headphone jack. The Sideclick would receive a signal from the Roku remote via a plug on the Sideclick that engages the Roku headphone jack as the Sideclick is snapped onto the Roku remote. This design requires additional electronics components as well as a new case design and it would significantly increase our funding goal so we chose to launch without this feature.
It's certainly possible that if our funding reaches a certain level, we could add headphone accessibility as a stretch goal. So please continue to help spread the word!
