You don't have to press hard anymore, sewing needles hold the ruler in place for you, without damaging the fabric.

We are also in the process of designing every other ruler that you need for special projects, including different shapes for your favorite blocks.
Eureka! In our first baby step, the concept of metal pins holding a "ruler" in place proved to work great, encouraging us to continue our research to solve the problem.
Now we had to figure out how to make the pins self-retracting for safety and easy sliding of the ruler. We tried many different ways; using hinges and springs worked well, but it was not a practical design.
Finally! Bending a piece of acrylic, just a couple of degrees, not only avoided the need to use hinges, but also provided the spring-back necessary to retract the pins automatically without any actual springs.
Basic tests definitely proved that it was the most practical and effective way for self-retracting pins and, very important, the fabric is not damaged at all. Our first working ruler, shown in our videos, is just a handmade prototype, but it proved that the problem of the ruler moving was definitely solved.
Now we just needed the right company to produce the Beehive Ruler with the quality and good looks it deserves. Our manufacturer, Quilter’s Rule International, has 26 years of experience manufacturing excellent quilting products and is able to produce our design in large quantities with high quality standards.
Risks and challenges
We took several prototypes on multiple trips to quilting stores and guilds, and considered all their feedback before we settled on a final design.
Our design requires precision manufacturing, so it was very important to research many acrylic manufacturers to make sure we could offer the best product possible.
The manufacturer we chose, Quilter's Rule International, loves our ruler and, therefore, is willing to run small quantity orders, which allowed us to set a small goal for our project. However, their facilities have the capability to produce any quantity needed with their excellent quality standards.
