"Laugh out loud funny, deceptively smart and ultimately quite touching. All Remainers should have a copy of this book on their bedside for when they need a little reassurance."
Ian Dunt, author of 'Brexit: What The Hell Happens Now?' and editor of politics.co.uk
When the UK narrowly voted to leave the EU on 23 June 2016, the country was stunned. A thousand questions arose. What just happened? What was going to happen? Why? Who did this? What's the matter with you? And why is invoking "the will of the people" suddenly the ultimate argument-ending smackdown move?
As the months trudged on, the government floundered and the debate went round and round, it became sadly apparent that this was a terrifically immature moment in our nation's history. What would a child make of this mass throwing-out of toys from the country's pram? She'd probably wonder who this 'Will' was who suddenly seemed to be getting so much attention. He must be the smartest, strongest and best person of all: a bold leader who would show us the way to prosperity, freedom and really suave hats.
So 'Will Of The People' came to be. It's a satirical, original, one-off book about Brexit: a light-hearted yet poignant attempt to tell the story of this chaotic, historic, bewildering moment in pictures, with bears. It's told simply and saltily, though not without sympathy for those who, like Will, felt that this was a chance for a better and more brightly-coloured future. After all, in the end we're all in the same teeny tiny little boat. GREAT no it's fine honestly.
We'll be keeping you updated on 'Will''s gallop towards glorious success or humiliating obscurity throughout the 30-day campaign, and adding extracts and sketches to the page. Here's a little more about the book, the rewards, and us.
A family of bears tell the tragicomic tale of Will, an average young man who finds himself at the heart of a madcap scramble for sovereignty and power. As events career beyond everyone's control, he must search his soul to find whether or not his fateful decision was right, and also search the shops for decent hard-working British bananas.
Along with gorgeous hardback and digital copies of 'Will Of The People', backers can choose bookmarks, tote bags and limited edition prints, all designed by illustrator Joey Everett (images coming soon, yep). There are also tickets to the glittering launch party on a boat docked on the Thames, close enough to Parliament for them to hear your subversive, maniacal laughter. Look out for more rewards as we go. Ooo.
We'll be publishing 'Will Of The People' with RedDoor Publishing on Article 50 Day, 29 March 2018: the non-holiday nobody is especially looking forward to. The super-duper launch party will be on that very date, with a view to making the hangover last all year.
Backers will receive digital or hardback copies of the book as soon as those are finished, because they're spesh and make things happen. (See how I've put this in bold, being as it's so important and good.)

She’s published ‘The Yes’ (Andersen/Random House, 2014, illustrated by Satoshi Kitamura) and ‘Drunk Furniture’ (Quadrille, 2015, with Rhodri Marsden). One of these is more suitable for children than the other.

Risks and challenges
'Will Of The People' is already written, with the illustrations in progress. Provided it is fully funded, RedDoor Publishing will be bringing the book into the world. We've worked out our costs and timings together and can't foresee any issues. Of course there's a chance that some Brexit-related issue will make for some beautifully ironic* delay, but we'll keep everyone updated on everything we can.
