About

WHO ARE WE:

Beautiful Freeek was established in 2019 by Sean Nowok Pluck and Angela Savva.  We are an audio drama production company which seeks to raise the profile of surround sound immersive audio drama.  With both founders sharing a passion for drama and all things audio, immersive audio drama was our natural next step.

Sean Nowok Pluck

A producer and composer in his own right, Sean has been a keen scriptwriter for many years, writing his first script for radio by the time he was 15 years old.  His influences are drawn from the likes of Enid Blyton, Christopher Paolini, Ray Bradbury, and Stephen King.   Though he's an avid and highly experienced sound engineer, there's no doubt that Sean's passion is firmly rooted in audio drama.

Angela Savva

Angela been writing short stories for over 15 years, with her main focus on mental health for the past 2 years.  Her first audio drama won her a First at university and the acclaim of her colleagues.  As a member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), Angela is an exceptional Foley artist and has a superb ear for mixing.  She also has a proven background in project management.

OUR ETHOS:

For many science fictions fans, part of the allure is the thought of what future technology could be capable of.  Remember the time when flip-phones were just a prop in Star Trek?  Exactly!

In the times of Orson Welles, audio dramas were recorded in mono.  As technology evolved, stereo recording techniques allowed for two-channel stereo productions.  Generally, this is how most audio dramas are still produce today.  However, we believe that true science fiction audio drama should have a multidimensional field for total listener immersion.  Our aim, therefore, is to create a fully immersive sci-fi audio drama recorded and mixed in 5.1 surround sound from the point of the listener.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

We don't want to spoil the surprise, so we're keeping the plot top secret!  But here's what we can tell you.  The project will explore the science fiction genre in in terms of sound and music by using spatial microphone techniques.  Following on from the work of Michel Chion, this project will be recorded from the 'point-of-listening', immersing the listener firmly into the space and environment intended and implied by the genre.

Budget:

This is an undergraduate final major project and as such, we're trying very hard to minimise all costs and keep expenses to bare minimum, whilst at the same time aiming for a final output of broadcastable quality.  The majority of the budget (we estimate 70pc) will go towards paying for voice actors, whilst the remainder will go towards ambisonic microphone hire (these mics are not cheap!).  We already have £200 saved up which will provide a contingency fund for those unexpected moments, such as understudy travel costs.  All funds raised via Kickstarter will go towards production costs of this project only.

Production Schedule:

Production has already started on the project, with ambiences being recorded on location as we speak.  The studio has been booked for the voice actors for early October with post-production to follow shortly after.  The project will be completed by the third week of November 2019.

Risks and challenges

Although we are experienced at what we do, the main risk for this project (as with most) is actor unavailability. If this becomes an issue, we will call upon the understudies to help complete the project.
