BEAT ROCKERS is a beatboxing program for blind students that launched in Fall 2010 at the Lavelle School for the Blind in the Bronx.

**************************************************************** PLEASE NOTE: Any funds raised ABOVE our goal will be used towards FUTURE ROUNDS of BEAT programs. So please, help us surpass our initial goal of $7K! **************************************************************** What does B.E.A.T. do? B.E.A.T. is a non-profit (pending) organization that offers free arts-focused workshops for grade school and high school students. We currently have two programs running at three schools, all of which are located in the Bronx.

By working closely with the school, we are able to incorporate these programs into the students’ schedules to ensure that their participation does not conflict with their regular academic work. We have created these programs to supplement and enhance their educational progress by inspiring them to see their potential through the arts.

Our programs are culturally relevant and genuinely engage today’s youth. Students learn important life lessons and social skills while discovering new abilities and ways to express themselves creatively through music, dance and art.

We were just recently written up by GOOD Magazine on their website! ............................................................ What is BEAT ROCKERS? BEAT ROCKERS is a beatboxing class for blind and visually impaired students (including those with multiple disabilities) that launched in the Fall 2010 semester at the Lavelle School for the Blind in the Bronx.

The purpose of the program is to empower blind and visually impaired students through music by teaching them exciting and easily accessible ways to create music using their own bodies as instruments. In this context, the students have no need for outside assistance or equipment. They can make their own music whenever they want, wherever they are, and with whomever they want. Through beatboxing, the music becomes dialogue - a powerful source for communication and collaboration.

BEAT ROCKERS is led by Program Director, Taylor McFerrin, and Instructor, Adam Matta. Additional teaching support has been provided by Chesney Snow, as well as special guest instructor Kenny Muhammad and special guest performer Masai Electro.

All BEAT ROCKERS instructors are accomplished, professional musicians and producers who regularly perform their music all around the world. They are also equally incredible teachers and motivators, as well as some of the most gifted beatboxers currently performing.

Through BEAT ROCKERS, the instructors are laying down the foundation for a beatboxing curriculum to be shared and used to empower blind and visually impaired students across the globe.

The idea is to spread the knowledge and share the power of music. ............................................................ How will B.E.A.T. use the money raised through Kickstarter?

The BEAT ROCKERS program needs your support to continue. All funds raised will be used to provide this program for the next three months at the Lavelle School for the Blind. The money will go towards teaching fees, transportation, guest instructors, equipment rentals, and basic expenses. **************************************************************** Any funds raised ABOVE our goal will be used towards FUTURE ROUNDS of BEAT programs. So please, help us surpass our initial goal of $7K! ****************************************************************

The overwhelming majority of your contribution goes to making sure the kids get the ABSOLUTE best instructors for these programs. As in academics, we understand that having excellent teachers is the key to a child's success and the foundation from which to build. Undeniably, the success of our programs is based on the strength, skills and conviction of our instructors.

We are blessed to be working with amazing, qualified experts to direct and instruct our programs. In addition to teaching, the instructors bring a detailed 3 month curriculum to the school which enables us to track progress and ensure the students are maximizing their time in the program without moving too quickly.

With as little as $5, your pledge will help us give under-privileged students in New York City access to these programs and the chance to learn invaluable life skills such as teamwork, self-confidence, and creative expression! ............................................................ What do you get in return for your pledge?
