About

Watch the video to see Anthony Whishaw, one of Britain's finest artists, in his London studio and home where he has worked since 1957.

We are asking you to support us in producing the first comprehensive book of rarely seen drawings and works on paper by this exceptional artist. The book will be published to coincide with Anthony’s 90th birthday and his forthcoming exhibition at The Royal Academy of Arts in February 2020.

Over a 70-year career his work has been featured on BBC Television, BBC Radio 4 and Channel 4 and has gained the admiration of fellow artists and critics alike. He has exhibited at prestigious venues in London including The Royal Academy of Arts, Tate, the Barbican, The Institute of Contemporary Arts and Kings Place among many others in the UK and internationally.

Whishaw is a ‘Royal Academician’, one of the highest accolades given to any living artist by The Royal Academy of Arts, London. He is one of the original artists of the Kensington and Chelsea art scene in the 1950s and 60s and has worked in the same studio for nearly 70 years.

Please support our campaign to help this distinguished artist reveal rarely seen works and build the recognition he deserves.

About the book

A Royal Academy of Arts writer and essayist, Richard Davey, will explore the artist’s exceptional drawing ability, themes and styles: from his early work with studio models and experiences of the Spanish landscape, through to interiors, people, nature and more.

The book will be 100 pages, hardback, beautifully bound and printed on speciality papers throughout.

Timescale

Project Budget

  • Design, layout, editing, publishing: £3,500.00
  • Photography: £1,300.00
  • 1000 print run: £4,700.00
  • Fundraising target: £9,500.00

Our stretch goal target: £13,000.00

Our stretch goal target will enable us to produce a print run of 2,000 copies which is more economical. If we raise more than £13,000, then we will be able to increase the number of pages in the book, showing further rarely seen work from this brilliant artist.

Profits from the sale of the books will help us to invest in other similar, projects giving world-class artists the recognition they deserve.
