“I’m so interested in ways people change each other. When you’re with someone, you are not the same person necessarily you are when you’re with someone else. Especially if it’s someone you’re close to… the space between people becomes a person.”
- Rebecca Sugar
For Beach City Con organizers Tara and K-K of Saga Event Planning, that space is a person who wants to share their love of fandom community with the world. Their meeting at and subsequent experiences with Ice & Fire Con means they know firsthand that there is no better way to celebrate fandom than at a convention weekend making friends with like-minded fans!
Saga Event Planning aims to bring the first Steven Universe Convention to Virginia Beach in October of 2017. This fan-run, all-ages event will offer traditional convention programming with a Crystal Gem twist. Above all, the goal is to keep Beach City Con fun, keep Beach City Con safe, and keep Beach City Con WEIRD!
This Kickstarter will cover basic start up costs. Any tiers above our planned weekend pass cost will include options for donors to get tickets for 2017's convention. Beach City Con is not-for-profit - all money raised above our minimum goal will go back into making the best event possible for our attendees.
Please note that Beach City Con is a Steven Universe-themed, fan-based organization operated by Steven Universe fans. Beach City Con is not sponsored by Cartoon Network. Steven Universe, its characters, costumes and all associated items are the intellectual property of Cartoon Network and Rebecca Sugar. All rights reserved.
Risks and challenges
Beach City Con aims to mirror the experience Steven Universe offers its viewers. This means it will be an all ages event, a first for parent company Saga Event Planning. Providing programming suitable for children and simultaneously entertaining for adults will be a worthwhile challenge for the organizers of Beach City Con.
As the first con of its kind, we must ask our donors and attendees to have faith that we will bring them an event well worth their time and money. Luckily, Saga Event Planning has four years of experience with a similar single-fandom convention: Ice & Fire Con, which was founded in 2013.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
