After yet another year of evil machinations, BD Games is proud to bring an expansion to Assault on Doomrock, as well as a second edition of the base game.
Those of you willing to endure a uniquely ridiculous journey and those of you not frightened of being eaten by flying sharks, please continue.
I welcome you, Heroes. It is time for an adventure.
I just hope the dragon will take it easy on you during your first run.
Assault on Doomrock is a cooperative game set in a fantasy world, that can be played by 1 to 4 players. A complete adventure takes from 2 to 3 hours.
What is the gameplay like?
Step 1 - Gather the party!
Generate your hero by combining a hero card and a trait card. Grab your set of ability cards, dice, health tokens and steel yourself for a difficult journey. The game is quite challenging!
Step 2 - Adventuring!
Travel through the randomly assembled deck of area cards. Explore locations, complete objectives, experience events and look for gold and trouble. Try reaching Doomrock Mountain in time.
Step 3 - Gear up!
Buy, loot, or steal awesome gear! You would especially like these epic items the dragon is sleeping on.
Step 4 - Level up
Spend silver to level up during camps. Draw 3 random cards and keep one. Don't be surprised if your warrior friend suddenly starts shooting fireballs from his eyes! Whatever combinations work between your party members.
Step 5 - Do battle!
In order to win the game you must overcome 3 random and increasingly difficult encounters.
The battles play out in a unique system, that does not use a grid or distance measuring, yet provides a wide array of tactical options. There are no player turns, heroes perform their actions in any order they like. This opens opportunities for a lot of insane party combinations.
In battles heroes roll dice at the start of the round and assign them to ability cards to plan their round as a party.
Enemies are controlled by their dedicated artificial intelligence decks. This creates thematic encounters that play out differently every time.
Why do we think Assault on Doomrock is special?
1. Variable scenarios
Almost every aspect of the game is assembled randomly from decks of cards: heroes, hero traits, encounters, abilities, common items, epic items, adventure areas, objectives, events, encounters. This makes every game play out differently. There are nearly 300 cards in the game and almost every card is unique.
2. Level up system
You are not limited in which direction you develop your character and looking for crazy combos between your party members is satisfying.
3. True cooperation
There is no 'me' in this game, there is only 'we'. You control your own character during battles but group planning is essential.
It’s lighthearted, and a bit absurd but we never go overboard with it.
5. Battle system
Unique. Simple rules, giving a wide array of tactical options. No player turns, an exciting planning phase with dice allocation, minimal randomness when determining damage. Intelligent enemies without an ‘overlord player’'.
6. Role player friendly
The abstract nature of battles and actions on the adventure map sets an excellent ground for player narration.
If you would like to see how the game plays, I recommend the original Rahdo Runthrough video:
Rahdo gets it! Although please keep in mind that this video has been recorded with a prototype of the base game.
The second edition of the base game features some balance tweaks, corrected card texts, and a revised rulebook. The quality of the components remains the same as in first edition.
Almost 300 cards and over 150 tokens!
The 8 promo cards from the original Indiegogo campaign are included in the second edition.
The base game is required in order to use the contents of the expansion.
Doompocalypse features additional cards for all the decks in the base game.
Two new heroes join the battle in the expansion.
The hardcore Bard and the dominant Commander both focus on teamwork oriented mechanics. Although the bard would argue that he is not 'the support act'. He is the main event.
New areas such as the Hidden stash or Lonely tower will riddle the adventure map with decisions. Just do not get distracted by all the ladies, heroes. Focus on the quest!
There are new enemies. Hope you are looking for a challenge, because they sure are tough. Battle the shark tornado, heart of darkness, armored skeletons, sneaky elven archers and more.
The encounters are presented on a new large card format, containing visualized battle setup. Each encounter card from the base game is included in the expansion, redone in the large format. Some effects have been tweaked and rebalanced, introducing additional AI cards and giving the old encounters some new life.
Battle these enemies with original new items. Guns, throwing weapons, impossible new artifacts and accessories required to be operated by 2 heroes. These will change how you approach some of the battles.
A set of new level up abilities is also added. Both utility skills and attacks in this expansion accentuate cooperation within the party.
We revisited the trait cards in this expansion, recreating old traits and adding a couple of new ones. These traits allow actions to be performed during the roll phase, if a specific set of dice results is achieved. Pushing your luck during roll phase has never been this interesting.
Last but not least, battles now feature terrain elements, drafted from a random pool for every encounter. These objects, when approached, can be used by both the heroes and enemies, providing another layer of depth to the system.
Slide on shields from a hill. Move your party members with a barrel. Throw enemies into bonfires. Flip tables and take cover behind them. Throw acorns at bosses! Fall into deadly traps! Yeah!
If you would like to learn more about terrain in the expansion, check out these previews:

The final contents of the expansion may be expanded by several cards and tokens from stretch goals.
The final number of components may vary slightly.
Please note that with exception of the first stretch goal, the rest affects only the content of the expansion.
The second edition of the base game went through minor balance and text error corrections. As a sign of respect for our original supporters, we are releasing an upgrade pack that will set your cards from first edition on par with the second edition. This upgrade is free for everyone ordering only the expansion, either via worldwide delivery, or Essen pickup.
If you would like to improve your base game without ordering the expansion, you may order it via a separate pledge.
The upgrade pack consists of approximately 40 cards and a revised rulebook. The exact final contents of the upgrade pack may vary slightly.
Please note that, if you ordered the base game via this Kickstarter campaign, you do not need an upgrade pack, since the version you ordered is the second edition.
The upgrade pack is a one-time Kickstarter offer. It is very unlikely that it will become available anywhere else.
As a sign of appreciation for our supporters, each non-anonymous supporter's name will be engraved on the wall of doom, situated around the sides of the inner box part and box insert.
We barely had enough room to place all the names on the sides of the box during the last campaign, so we will now also use the box insert if need be. However, names will be split between two boxes now.
Each supporter ordering the base game or base game with the expansion, will have his name printed on the base game box.
Each supporter ordering only the expansion, or simply supporting us, will have his name printed on the expansion's box.
BD Games is a young game development company located in Poland.
Today it is basically a two man show, consisting of the company owner and lead designer:
Tom Stasiak and a co-designer and editor: Christopher Niewiadomski. Bartosz Pławecki, with his unique art style, is engaged in this project as our primary illustrator.
We are gamers of all genres and platforms, making games out of passion. The ones we would like to play.
With last year's Assault on Doomrock release, we earned the trust of many gamers with our original approach and attention to detail.
With numerous new ideas in mind, in the future we would like continue to develop quality games for the undeniably awesome board gaming community.
If you think this project is worth supporting, please share this project on your social media.
BD games is just 2 guys who are not big with social media. Any help with spreading the word about this project is greatly appreciated!
This Kickstarter campaign has been prepared in collaboration with Mage Company. .
This is the state of the project at the date of Kickstarter launch.
The base game has been developed and released in 2014. Second edition in an upgraded version almost ready and waiting to be produced. We are just making a few final decisions regarding some balance factors.
We have been working on the expansion for a year now and it is in its final stages of development in both the gameplay and graphical department.
What we ask for are funds required for production and delivery of the games.
Our primary goal all along was to bring the expansion to the Essen 2015 fair for pick up and send the Kickstarter copies worldwide just after the fair.
This is a goal similar to the one we had in 2014 with the Indiegogo campaign. We assumed to deliver the games in November, but non Europe backers were receiving them until mid January. This was our first project.
This year we speak from experience. The estimated delivery time is by the end of year for Europe and USA. Some countries like Australia or Canada may receive the games in early 2016, due to longer shipping time. The games will be shipped from Poland.
Risks and challenges
We really want to exhibit at the Essen fair of 2015.
Since this is a date set in stone, games have to be produced before then. Skipping the Essen fair is not really an option for us, besides we already reserved a booth. We launched the last campaign around the same time of the year. Having little experience in the development process we still managed to bring a complete and well received product to the fair. This year we are planning to do the same, and since we have more experience than the last time, a delay is unlikely to happen.
