Summary

Based off the original "STAR TREK: Bridge Commander" Bridge Commander 2 seeks to redefine space simulation games with an immense amount of detail and worlds to explore, players will be able to seamlessly land on planets, venture through solar systems, scan nebulae, challenge other players, explore complete starship interiors and defend whichever race they choose to call home, which includes but is not limited to at launch:

  • The Federation (Starfleet)
  • The Klingon Empire
  • The Romulan Star Empire
  • Civilian in any 'parent' faction
The game is planned to primarily be an MMO (Massively-Multiplayer Online) but throughout you will find a single player campaign with engaging story arcs that will help shape the future of your faction. You will however also get the skirmish mode you know an love, all you have to do is head down to the holodeck.
The original Bridge Commander had lots of good ideas, however, they were incomplete, and the game lacked much, including: Dynamic environments, realistic planets, planetary rings, Immense environments, such as large areas of space, and many more graphical and engine features that most people take advantage of in today's technological world. It is not a 1:1 remake, but it's an attempt to improve upon the idea of Bridge Commander while bringing up the quality to Next-Gen standards.

Any funding we do receive will go towards the development of the base game (without the add-ons mentioned in the stretch goals below) to include:

Internally we have a schedule of when we want various things to be working and made along with internal testing and the start of external alpha testing. We aim to have early alpha testers for our high level backers first by late 2014 with various beta tests scheduled throughout 2015. Based on the results of these tests and funding goals, we do not want to create a release date because we feel like we should deliver a polished and high quality game to everyone hopefully by 2015/16.
Unity3D Pro

Our game engine of choice is Unity3D Pro. we can create volumetric effects, realistic real-time lighting and shadows, HDR rendering with linear space lighting, full screen post-processing effects, occlusion culling and Level of Detail support just to name a few.

At the completion of the stage requirements below, everything in that stage and the stages before will be included when the game launches.

  • Inter-ship mini-games including 3D Chess and Poker, etc...
Stage 6: $100,000
  • Deep Crafting System
  • Holodeck Programs (Captain Proton, Pilot Training, Etc...)
  • Explorable Delta quadrant at launch
Stage 7: $105,000
  • Fleet (Guilds) System
  • Interactive starship operating system (Interact with any computer panel)
  • Combat at FTL speeds (Warp, transwarp)
Stage 8: $110,000
  • Andromeda Galaxy
  • The Mirror Universe
  • Explore every building in sight, this will give us the funds we need to hire additional modelers to complete many buildings complete with interiors.
  • Players will be able to Directly influence the Galaxy - Factions can control remote areas of space at launch.

About The Team


Kenneth Emerson
 - Lead Developer

Kenneth started the project back in 2010 and helped to start to shape his vision for what Bridge Commander should be. He has created and put together many of the highest quality maps we could hope to make, many of which have been met with positive reactions from their unaltered in game screenshots.

Aaron Shufelt Lead Programmer

Aaron was a contract programmer for national financial services as well as being a systems administrator which has helped to feed into the more complex features that the game demands. He is responsible in creating and implementing the entirely custom written and new planetary rendering system that we use as well as writing the Artificial Intelligence for the NPCs.

Frederic Babord Executive Programmer

Based in England, Freddie joined the team back in the Autumn of 2013. He is currently a student who will be starting to study Computing / Computer Games Programming at university in September 2014. During his short time with the project he has created the patcher and updater, login and account creation, character creator and the base code of weapons, shields and networking.

The Impact

The original Bridge Commander helped shaped the lives of many Star Trek fans that played it. We want to bring this experience to a new generation that will enjoy it as much as we have in the past. As a team, we felt that while the original was great it was lacking many features. We want to help finish what Totally Entertainment started in their vision to what their optimal Bridge Commander simulation should have been.

Risks and challenges

The risks of developing a game this large are immense, Bridge Commander 2 is not just a Star Trek game, it's a AAA Quality Space Simulation with real physics, which means a great amount of detail and research.

Right now Bridge Commander 2 is being developed with no budget and a volunteer crew, It's taken us 4 years to get where we are today, before Fred and Aaron joined the crew it was just Kenneth and he was doing everything on his own with the occasional help from his friend Ed who wrote a few scripts with him.

Simply put, there are no risks involved once the project is successfully funded, If the project is funded, everyone will get their rewards, the game will be finished in a timely manner and if anything comes up, I will tackle it head-on and find a solution.
