About this project
For all of us who've had a flight from hell thanks to a child, whether our own or someone else's, the SEAT KICKER story will hit home as if told and embellished by Stephen King.
It's an action movie you'll be able to watch on your lunch break.
SEAT KICKER is a big movie! It feels like an action-thriller where Bruce Willis or Liam Neeson should be sitting in an exit row. Technically, it'll be a short, not a feature, but SEAT KICKER will be the biggest thing we've yet done.
SEAT KICKER takes place almost entirely on an airliner halfway over the Pacific. When the plane is wracked by worsening turbulence, passengers and crew begin to suspect a connection between a gifted little girl's tantrums and the violent forces threatening the aircraft.
So who is making this film?
I'm BRUCE BRANIT, a director and visual effects artist known for work on shows like Breaking Bad, Fringe and Lost. My company Branit FX currently works on Person of Interest and The Flash.
I'm launching a sister company, Lucamax Pictures to develop and produce more of this original content. By applying our VFX experience to concepting, production and post, we hope to tell incredible stories at a reasonable budget. The first proof of this concept was this spec spot for Disney's Star Wars Weekends. (Can you spot all the Easter eggs?)
Lucamax has also just wrapped an eerie and suspenseful short called GOTCHER. This film is currently making its festival rounds, so we can't show it publicly yet. But you can see it now by becoming a SEAT KICKER backer.
And we are working toward much bigger things.
Helping fund SEAT KICKER will build momentum for future projects. In addition to a WORLD BUILDER feature, we have a fun, alien invasion movie called STATE OF THE UNION in development, and a science-fiction film in the vein of Moon or Silent Running called TREBUCHET. You will have a front row seat as those projects develop.
So why do you need Kickstarter?
Between jobs, we try to keep our creative edge by making in-house shorts and spec spots. But those passion projects have always been smaller, self-funded projects.
Visual effects work might seem lucrative but my widely shared post on the bankruptcy of Rhythm & Hues after their Life of Pi Oscar explains these realities.
We have already prepared an ambitious shooting schedule and realistic but daunting budget for SEAT KICKER. With that said, I am all in. My skin is in the game and my money is where my mouth is. But we are still coming up short. So, we are pitching it to you through this Kickstarter to bridge the gap for all those things that a film production of this scale needs cash upfront for.
We can't wait to share our progress and this film with you.
So, please consider becoming an important part of our film production world today. If you know someone who might be interested in filmmaking and visual effects, please share this campaign with them.
Every tweet, post and share of #SeatKicker helps.
And as always, for further questions don't hesitate to contact us.
And you never know...
Thank you for your time and attention.
Risks and challenges
Filmmaking is part art, part science and part sheer will.
Seat Kicker has been written and developed to minimize risks involved. It largely takes place in a single location - an airliner (which we have already arranged). It takes advantage of what we do best, visual effects, to tell the story. And it is a short. It is shootable in a small number of days.
Most of our other internal projects have been completed piece-meal while other jobs come in and out of our facility doors. With a successful campaign we hope to focus on Seat Kicker and get it back to our backers as soon as possible.
In film productions things always go wrong. The ability of cast and crew to creatively respond and improvise is one of the hallmarks of the art form. It is the hot-house of production that makes movies live.
As for other risks? They say never shoot with kids or animals. At least there will be no animals onboard this plane.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
