Never knew that Filipinos had their own writing system? Well, neither do most Filipinos. We want to change that. There are only 3 tribes left in the Philippines that still use the ancient writing system. Without government help, the script is on the verge of disappearing.
Since 2008, my colleague (Ray Haguisan) and I (Christian Cabuay) have been traveling around the San Francisco Bay Area to the Philippines trying to revive the nearly extinct pre-colonial Ancient Filipino writing system, named Baybayin also known as Alibata.
What will my contribution go toward?
This October 2011, we have a great opportunity to promote the script at the 1st International Filipino American Book Festival here in San Francisco. Guest include prominent authors, government officials, NGOs, scholars, students and even a speical appearance of a former president of the Philippines. We will use the funds to help pay for the booth where we will teach the script for FREE and showcase our artwork. More info on the even at http://filbookfest.info
