It is with great excitement that we present Bay Area Snow Park, a revolutionary recreational activity that will enhance the snow sporting industry.
Snow School inc. is a pending nonprofit organization dedicated to after school sports and bringing more access to this sport in the Bay Area.
The Bay Area Snow Park will attract millions of Bay Area residents and tourists to San Jose because it integrates with the city’s expansion policy of including recreational activities to the Singleton Property. As a result, this will bring increased business revenue and investments to San Jose. Our proposal has sound fiscal management and is self-sustainable as a community snow park. I believe Bay Area Snow Park has tremendous growth potential because of the social media attention is has already received. For instance, the Facebook fan page has over 29,000 unique visitors.
We anticipate $1 million to $18 million to complete this project, which will include retail and restaurants on site. The project is sized based on the amount of funding it receives from this crowd-source campaign. With the support of the millions of snow sport enthusiasts and by the City of San Jose, we will bring this project to life. As a nonprofit we plan to give back a percentage of profits to local high schools who participate in our after school ski programs. The high schools will use the money for college scholarships. This plan demonstrates how Bay Area Snow Park is committed to being partnered with the local schools.
GOAL: Raise funding through the community to show support for building a Snow School in San Jose.
How big will the slope be?
About two football fields. The size of the park will be dictated by the amount money we raise! We can build a small park or larger and set the standard for the nation.
VOTES: Over the next year, while you wait for the City's planning process to take place, you will be able to VOTE each month on current aspects of the design of the ski slope and features of the building.
Each month you will have 3 options:
1. Choose one out of 3-8 options Snow School comes up with each month.
2. Submit YOUR idea, special request, slope feature, OR design your own mountain on our website and vote on it. Or "Sponsor Vote" your Friend's design.
3. VOTE on the TOP COMMUNITY IDEAS!!! These are designs, ideas, features, and special requests that your community has voted on as must have.
Voting starts on Valentines Day Feb. 14th 2014. So come show your love. At the end of this campaign you will receive an email confirmation and further instructions.
TICKETS & PASSES:
Live outside the area and love this idea?
$10 pledges are important to us. Once voting begins you will be able to vote on which City and State we build our next parks. So with a small pledge you'll be able to vote on bringing this to your backyard.
After we're open:
Daily lift tickets: $37
We will never offer season passes so pledge today to get yours, instead we will offer a monthly membership.
Memberships: $60 per month + $200 one time initiation fee ($920 annually) or get your discounted pass here.
Fast Pass: Once we open there will be two lines one for regular lift tickets and the other line will be for ski patrol, ski school, and fast pass. You'll be able to get up the hill faster and enjoy more runs! This pledge will get you access to the to the slopes for the first year. However you'll still need a day pass or a membership to ride. The fast pass is an extra perk added to your general admission.
Use of proceeds:
All of the funds raised for Snow School will be invested into the development of this park in the Bay Area. No money will go towards salaries.
The money will go towards the environmental studies, blue prints, and other initial costs towards getting a permit.
What happens if we raise all the money but the City of San Jose still says no? This is unlikely. We are confident that this will go through at this location, however if that does happen, the money will go towards building this park in another location. Still in the Bay Area, just not in San Jose. There are many locations in the Bay Area that a park like this could work. This money will go towards one of those locations if this one doesn't pan out. Our first priority is to our pledgers and ensuring that your faith is not misplaced. If this project does not work out anywhere in the Bay Area in the next 5 years, there will be a partial if not a full refund.
Where will the rest of the money come from?
Snow School started this Kickstarter campaign to do two things.
1. Give the people that plan to come here the opportunity to save a lot of money by getting lift tickets now.
2. Give us the power to show the City that the community wants this park and the best way to do that is right here, raising the money through the community will make a powerful statement when this goes to a council vote.
Dirt brokering is a way we plan to make 2-4MM after permits have been issued. How? Most people do not know that the 3 most expensive things to dump at local landfills is concrete, tires, and DIRT. So we will give contractors, or anybody with a dirty problem on their hands a place to dump their clean soils (all dirt brought into this site will have a "clean soils" certification ensuring no toxic soil are present).
Snow School is a pending CA nonprofit, however there is a for-profit business that will also be at this facility running the Bar, Retail and Restaurant that falls outside of the non-profit school area. So there will be room for investor at that level.
Who are we and why are we doing this?
We are a group of investors, entrepreneurs, and experienced business professionals who have been skiers, or riders their entire lives. We decided to take on the challenge of making skiing more available. There are so many people we know that could never afford the cost associated with learning the sport. We want to change that. Make access to the slopes more convenient and affordable. Fueling the Snow Sports Industry by giving more people the opportunity to learn the sport.

POTENTIAL PARK DESIGNS:
After school sports:
One of our main goals is to create an afterschool skiing and snowboarding program. Where students from each high school will assemble teams and those teams will compete against each other for annual grand prize and scholarships that are divided amongst the team that wins. Also any students that enroll in the after school skiing and snowboarding program, will receive free skiing and snowboarding rental equipment, including helmets. This is just a few ways that we are showing our commitment to giving back to the community.
Risks and challenges
The main challenge is getting a permit. We have a remarkable team of experienced professionals across multiple fields that have been working together for 5 years to accomplish a common goal, building a snow park in the Bay Area.
Each person in our team has experience in specific aspects of this project, which include Architecture, Engineering, Business Development, Accounting, Construction, Dirt Brokering, Project Management, Consultants, Graphics, Programers, Marketing, Public Relations, Media and Legal.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
