A HUGE Update, covering some important topics (and a new video!)

All Stretch Goals Unlocked!

For those who haven't been keeping too close an eye on the campaign, you should know that the other day the fourth and last Stretch Goal was unlocked.

What does this mean? It means that after MapForge v1.0 is released, and after Donjon support is added in a later update, work will begin on a new utility app that I'm calling "Crucible".

This little program will let MapForge users craft their own free Add-Ons for MapForge. Getting Crucible made is going to be a huge win for all MapForge users, and not only because sharing Add-Ons is going to be a lot of fun, but because it's going to vastly increase the size of everyone's library of mapping assets.

For those of you who are familiar with the multi-gigabyte CSUAC art collection, imagine having that (or something like it) at your fingertips in MapForge, easily searchable to quickly find exactly the item you are looking for to complete your current map, without ever leaving the app. And to have all that art behave intelligently (e.g., tiles will automatically get placed on the Tile layer and be properly sized, with variants at your disposal, or placeable items such as a chairs or tables will default to logical dimensions on a map, etc.), without any further action on your part.

Mind you, this won't all happen overnight. It will probably require a sizable group of volunteers to split up this mammoth task into manageable chunks, and getting that much content ported into Add-Ons could take weeks or even months. But I believe it will get done, and we're all going to bask in mapping goodness when it happens.

Donjon support explained

We blasted past Stretch Goal #2 so fast that I didn't have time to create and release the video I had planned to explain exactly what Donjon support means. But now I've finished it, so here it is.

Feel free to post feedback/comments here, or on the YouTube page.

New Pledge Level for Publishing and Commercial Use

We've added a new pledge level called "Commercial/Publisher Bundle". It's limited to the first 100 backers (of which there are 67 slots left, at the moment), and it bundles a MapForge license (at Early Bird rate) with all six Add-Ons that allow their art to be used in published maps, or maps that will be used in commercial products (such as adventure modules).

And not only that, but the bundle is now being upgraded to have around 50 more pieces of art than was originally planned (25 pieces from Steve Gaudreau, and 25 pieces from Bogie), for the same price. Even if you don't pledge for this bundle, if you get one of their Add-Ons individually, it will have now more content, and you won't have to pay more for it (at least during this Kickstarter campaign).

And while we're on the topic of publishing and commercial use, I'd like to mention this snippet that was added to the project page, in case some of you haven't seen it.

"IMPORTANT! All content Add-Ons are strictly for "Personal Use Only" EXCEPT those that are clearly marked as approved for publishing or commercial use (there are 6 such Add-Ons listed on this page, and another 3 free Add-Ons mentioned in the Updates). Pledging at the "Publisher/Commercial" pledge level does NOT give you the right to use other Add-Ons in commercial or published projects."

MapForge on a second computer? Yes, please!

Many of you have been voicing concerns about a MapForge license and purchased Add-Ons being limited to being used on a single computer. I am investigating the possibility of allowing the use of a 2nd computer. I need to be careful to avoid the potential for massive abuse, but I think this may just be possible. Stay tuned over the next few days for the final verdict.

Time to finalize your pledge total

Most of you have currently only pledged for a MapForge license, and have probably been waiting for the dust to settle before finalizing your pledge totals, since there have been new Add-Ons announced mid-campaign, and even pledge levels added.

Well, there won't be any additional last-minute Add-Ons, from this point on. Prices and information (e.g. resolution of artwork) have been locked down and announced, and it's time to dig out your trusty calculator and figure out your actual pledge total, accounting for any Add-Ons you would like.

The exception to this is if you happen to know that you want to get EVERYTHING on offer (yes, some people are quite serious about their mapping, it seems). By popular request (via Comments, emails, and private messages), I will be adding one last pledge level soon, to spare these folks the math. This will probably happen quite soon, as in today or tomorrow.

When I first started this project, I knew I wanted to offer a wide variety of content because every GM would have different needs, and a number of genres needed to be represented. I never, ever expected that anyone would want to actually get everything. But that's what some of you seem to want, and I'm listening.

Please Share more, so we can have a strong finish!

New pledges have slowed to a trickle, lately. I could really use your help in getting the word out, now more than ever since we're down to the last 6 days of the campaign.

You'd be amazed at how powerful and wide-ranging a reach nearly 1400 people can have if they all put in a few moments to let their friends and followers know about this project. A re-tweet or a Facebook share is all it takes, and costs nothing. And if you happen to know any RPG bloggers or anyone in the RPG industry press, ask them if they'd like to cover MapForge.

A New Kickstarter Campaign from Steve Guadreau

Good old SuperCaptain is at it again! Check out his latest campaign, for some great-looking outdoor maps. It's a short 10-day campaign, so don't dawdle.

I've played with Donjon a number of times, but never really used it to create maps for games because the resolution was limited. This is a brilliant idea to integrate them together, especially for GMs who are not as experienced in mapping. Great feature!

Super hot ..I didnt even know the dungeon thing exists..would have saved me a couple time instead of doing 25 hours map lolll and thanks for the publicity Hernan..Im pretty sure it helped alot :-)

Hm, strange, the only thing you should have to enter is the Quantity fields and hit return

I tried it in Excel, and the subtotals weren't updating automatically. I had to select a cell, and in the toolbar/ribbon along the top it would show a formula (for example, "=B4*C4"). If I place the cursor at the end of the formula and hit ENTER/RETURN, then it would update correctly. Just mentioning it in case someone has the same issue. I don't do much with Excel, so I'm a noob. There's probably an easier way to get auto-sums to work. Or maybe it works fine on Windows PCs but not on Macs?

I created a simple google sheets pledge manager calculator for anyone who would like to use it:…
