About this project
Battlefield Press' premier science fiction setting, now in a handy Expanded Edition and available for your choice of games. This version will be designed for the Savage Worlds system, the Cepheus Engine System (The Cepheus Engine System Reference Document comprises the core rules for a Classic Era Science Fiction 2D6-Based Open Gaming System. Inspired by the original three books of the oldest 2D6-based science fiction roleplaying game, the Cepheus Engine system incorporates elements of Open Game Content from previous releases of that game of intergalactic drifters and wanderers to create a basic system that will allow players and Referees alike to create their own science fiction universes or play in the ones they are already familiar with) , and the White Star system. Not only will there be a version of the setting that has never before seen, but we also add content that did not make it into the original version of the setting.
These books are bought to you by Jonathan M. Thompson and Luke Green, with additional system material by Stephen J. Miller and Jason Kemp for the Cepheus Engine System and additional system material by Joshua De Santo for the White Star System)
This game setting is based on the Double Spiral War Trilogy by Warren C. Norwood (available on Amazon.com and RPGnow.com). The work will contain information about the aliens, starships, planets and backgrounds from the novels. While not necessary to play, you may get more out of the setting reading the novels prior to playing the setting. Chapter One is available on DriveThruRPG.com for free.
Campaigns in the Double Spiral War setting are multifaceted. People can play characters from any walk of life, including members of the military (army, navy or marines), merchants, scientists, diplomats and all sorts of aliens. Campaigns can be merchant missions, the hunt for hidden treasures, the exploration of the galaxy, a military campaign where all the players are from the Sondak Confederacy, the United Central Systems or any number of neutral parties, or even one of political intrigue. There are places in the galaxy that still have not pledged allegiance to one side or the other, and there are yet still alien races to meet and explore (or conquer as you see fit).
If you have the current version of the rules, it only covers about a max of 2/3 of the material from the novels, This version expands it and uses 100% of the material in the novels. It adds about three races, some additional background material and a few other things. So if you felt there was something missing, this edition should cover it all. When creating the material for expansion, it was determined that it was easier to revise the existing books and add the missing material than it was to do just a book on the expanded material, thus this expanded version was created.

When mankind left behind their old home to seek out new lands beyond the dark spaces between galaxies, they hoped to leave behind them the conflict and chaos that has been their heritage since they first spoke tales of their histories. However, it wasn’t as easy as that, mankind still found cause to war amongst itself. Several decades before, the Sondak Confederacy worried about the growing power of the United Central Systems, a group dominated by humans genetically modified to have a much longer life span. As a result, they launched a war that waged for years tearing at both societies until finally they forced the U.C.S. to accept humiliating terms in exchange for peace. The Sondak Confederacy is complacent and unaware that the U.C.S. is on the verge of finally seeking vengeance for the loss of the previous war. And in the churning wake of these two giants, all the races of the galaxy and the lives of many individuals shall be turned upside down. But the question is, whose vengeance is being sought? That of a nation’s? Or that of a single person?
What will these funds be used for?
We are using these funds for many purposes, they will be used to pay authors, artist, layout, to print promotional material and to pay licensing fees. These things will be paid out immediately on the receipt of funds from Kickstarter. Additionally, Kickstarter takes 10% of whatever total we amass in fees.
What does access to print on demand at cost mean?
When the book is done, you will receive a link to the print on demand copy at cost. The size of the book will vary depending on the system. The Cepheus Engine book will be 8.5 x 11, the Savage World book will be 7x10 and the White Star book will be 6x9, all of which will fit the sizes of that particular game line.
This means 100% of backer money goes toward creating this project, and we don't have to charge additional money upfront or increase the goal to cover the costs of printing and shipping. This project's #1 goal is to finish the book and get into your hands!

Like other projects of this type, this project is not without risks. Delays can happen, as we are only human. We will keep in contact with you concerning potential delays and such. The biggest possible delay will come from any stretch goals that we may include.
