Terran Trade Authority: The Proxima War (Savage Worlds)
This Savage Worlds science fiction campaign setting covers the Terran Trade Authority at the time of the Proxima War.
Battlefield Press, Inc is raising funds for a science fiction campaign setting set in Stewart Cowley's Terran Trade Authority. This first book, The Proxima War written by Jonathan M. Thompson and Jeffery Lily, gives details from Earth's first contact to the aftermath of the war. Details will be presented on the military advances, the descriptions of the aliens and all the ships from the book Spacecraft 2000 to 2100 AD. The manuscript is unfinished, but a successful kickstarter will insure its complection. This is a new work, under a new license and has no connection to any previous similar works. When the kickstarter has ended successfully all backers ( available sometime after January 1, 2013 should they opt in) may have a copy of the work in progress to make comments upon, and playtest. We have also contacted Ian Stead who is known for his science fiction rpg art to do all the interiors. If you are not familiar with Ian's work it may be found here: http://biomassart.wordpress.com/. All backers, at all levels, will receive their name in the credits in this and all future editions of the Terran Trade Authority campaign setting. This kickstarter is to put together the final project and create the book.

What is Terran Trade Authority?
(From Wikipedia) The Terran Trade Authority is a science-fiction setting originally presented in a collection of four large illustrated science fiction books published between 1978 and 1980. This series was written by Stewart Cowley.
The books formed a connected space-opera milieu, describing the future history of mankind's expansion into the galaxy, presented in the guise of official handbooks by the trade organization from which the setting takes its name. However, the books sometimes contained contradictory information (e.g., the nature of early FTL technology).
Compared to other science fiction settings, the TTA setting appears optimistic about man's place in the universe, though elements of violence and authoritarianism do appear in the books. It features a strong undercurrent of wonder and adventure, due in part to the inclusion of various mysterious alien relics and incidents that are left unexplained by the author.

How Does Kickstarter Work?
Here’s the short version: For one month anyone can make pledges for this project, starting at $2 and going up as high as you’re willing. Then you can select a reward package equal to or less than the amount of your pledge. You can pledge more than a reward level if you choose, which is something that international backers will need to do to cover shipping. Your credit card won’t be charged until the project is funded, so you can adjust or cancel your pledge up until the deadline. Once the project is funded we’ll proceed printing our game and delivering on the promised rewards. And our company will be off to a great start!
***For what is my money being used?
These funds cover the costs of illustrating, editing and laying out the book, along with paying Stewart Cowley (who has graciously allowed us to play in his universe). When this project succeeds we will lay out the book, print it, and mail it to backers. All contributors will be given limited edition printings with a special cover. Non backers will be able to buy the regular edition through various retail outlets.
Is the art in B&W or Color?
The interior art is all b&w, while the cover will be full color. The costs of producing a book with color interiors is prohibitive for us as a small company. However, a full color interior is listed as a stretch goal.
***When do you estimate the release of the PDF version? the print version?
If we are successful we have plans to release the PDF in June 2013, with the print version being released in August of 2013 (just in time for GenCon, but we will make sure that backers copies go out prior to the convention). The delay of two months has several reasons, the most important is to avoid errors in the print version that we can catch and fix in the pdf (as the interiors are the same file). We want to make sure that this is the best product we can possibly make.
What are your stretch goals?
We are interested in doing a few stretch goals, some of them are as follows:
- If we reach $8000, we will do a 11 x 17 poster map for each backer pledging $35 or more. LOCKED
- If we reach $9000, we will open this up to all backers pledging at least $10. LOCKED
- If we reach $9500, we will produce a soundtrack for the Terran Trade Authority: Proxima War. LOCKED
- If we reach $15,000, we will do a full color interior for each backer of at the $35 or higher level. LOCKED
What will this book contain?
This book covers the events immediately prior to and after the Proximan War Era and descriptions are presented in that context. This book will contain racial rules on the core races - Humans, Alphans and Proximans, new edges and hindrances that fit the setting, and detailed setting material for the Terrance Trade Authority. It will also contain a section for starships found in Spacecraft 2000-2100 AD in the Savage Worlds game engine.
Risks and challenges
Battlefield Press is an experienced publisher. We've been in business since 2000 and have published our fair share of books. The risk on this project is low. We have an experienced staff and we make roleplaying books day in and day out.
The biggest risk this project faces is the inability of the various artists to meet their deadlines due to whatever reason (and we are all human so things come up). The lack of art has delayed more than one project, not just with us, but for quite a few companies. However, that said...if we come up with an art delay you will be notified. Art deadlines are not due until after the kickstarter has ended.
That said, I'm confident we can do this project in the time we outlined if we are funded. Thanks for you support.
If you are current backer of Kaisers Gate, you can rest assured that the print of the book is being sent out as we speak, you should receive your copies in the next couple of weeks. If you are a backer of City of Clocks, then rest assured that the book is currently on schedule and we will have a preview of the cover art in the next couple of weeks.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
