About this project
Hello Everybody, And Welcome To The World Of Battalia!
First, let us introduce ourselves in one sentence. We are a small team of passionate board game players, (including a warrior, a snow queen, a leprechaun, a dwarf, a giant and a dream walker), who also have some experience in board game publishing and who with a little help form their friends, after more than 2 years of development, have finally finished their first own game. Hurray!! If you want to learn more about us, check our bio, website and the information at the bottom. Now, let me walk you trough our project.
In general all game material is LANGUAGE INDEPENDENT
(you need the translation of the game rules only!)... and here we go :
The game comes with English rule book inside the box and printed Bulgarian rules for all the Bulgarian backers. There are high quality printable PDF files available for the following additional languages: German, French, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian portuguese, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Polish, Hungarian, Russian and Ukrainian.

What kind of game is this?
BATTALIA: The Creation is a medium weight strategy game for 2-4 players, ages 13 and up. An expansion for up to 6 players is on our schedule, but for now let’s focus on the basics (for more information about the expansion see our section "future plans"): the game combines the mechanics of map construction, deck building, hero and area control and unique calendar mechanics.
What actually happens during the game?
In the base game, you will buy useful artefacts and hire battle units to support your armies, you will build roads and cities and send your heroes to battle - you will have to find the most powerful mixture of all these assets and apply them at the right moment, so you could claim to be the rightful ruler of Battalia and win the game. A victory can be obtained through aggressive conquest or a peaceful development of your own city system (if you are lucky and the others let you :) . The interesting game play will provide you with the opportunity to make key decisions and turn the tides of even the grimmest outcomes. A player can outmaneuver and BE outmaneuvered by his opponents at any point during the game. Dynamic atmosphere and intense battles are key factors in the overall experience, however the game strives to stimulate planning and strategy over rash and impulsive decisions. In general this is not a luck based game, because of the core deck building mechanics, but a die is integrated as an optional element and is the ingredient, which spices up the game for all the fortunate fellows! You will find also an element of bluffing, when you fight your battles, so put the poker face on and be ready to outsmart your opponent. The game is defined by the unique combination of mechanics, aesthetic art style, and the presence of large scale 3D Hero figures in four colors, representing the leaders of the players army and their movement on the board.

Units are the heart of any players deck. There are four types resp. ranks - Frimen, Chiefs, Priests and Lords. These cards are used for creating new artefacts, building roads or cities and of course for conducting battles.
There are seven types of artefacts, each of them with its own special ability. The players use them for faster development, to upgrade their units, to transform their factions, to travel on the game board, etc. - they will give you a lot of flexibility.
The Great Artefacts are powerful objects crafted in ancient times. Every one of them has its own unique ability and provides big advantages to the player who earned it.
Terrain cards can be cities or roads. They are used for the construction of the map, and.. well - to gain victory points. No matter how strong is your deck, if you don’t have cities, you have nothing!
What we have here is 56 x 56 cm game board, city tokens to mark the level and the owner of the cities, reference sheets to help the players with the different costs in the game and the supply cards which are actually very, very important cards, as they are used for hiring units, building roads, traveling and more. Now, let me tell you a few words about the Sun Oracle, shortly called Orac, as it is a key element of the game. The Oracle is almighty ancient monument, eternal apprentice of the nature itself and the hand of the gods among humans and beasts. The Oracle provides advantages to the players and it could support you, if you catch the lucky moment on a sunny day... It counts the days and guides you through the never-ending competition between the folks that inhabit these lands.
The Reference sheets: a great additional aid for beginners - 12 x 18 cm. They are double sided and describe all the artefact abilities, all the creation costs, a player's turn sequence and some important rules!
The miniatures. There are 8 large scale miniatures which represent the players’ heroes in the game. These figures are the leaders of a player’s armies and mark players’ presence on the game board. Plus - they look amazing!
Four factions coexist in the world of Battalia. Most of the cards in the game (units, artefacts and terrain cards) and the 8 figures belong to one of the four factions. A leading concept in the game is that the four factions can freely collaborate with each other, but many units from the same faction, using their own artefacts, are much stronger together. Also, unlike all other games where the players choose their factions, in this game the factions choose the players.
We have serious plans for the future and actually already working on the first big expansion of Battalia Universe. We want to expand the universe step by step and you will get even more nice artwork, beautiful miniatures and interesting game play! The first expansion will include game material for 2 new factions, resp. for 5-6 players, additional peace of game board, some new Great Artefacts with new powers, the Storm Gates - places on the map, which you can use to travel from one to another gate in a different parts of the much bigger map for 6 players.... and of course a few new miniatures - 2 Heroes for the Wolfsclan and 2 Riders for the Tigerblessed :). We will add some NPCs (Mouflon & Mammoth riders), which belong to nobody, but will be aggressive to all heroes and will be moved from all players (clockwise) according to a special rule in one single turn... The NPCs will come through the Storm Gates and because they are extremely strong, they will try to make troubles on the map. Since we'll have 6 Gates - the D6 will decide from which gate they will appear each particular time :) ! All of this will come with the first expansion and we do not want to add more to the game play now, because of so many reasons. Balance is always important! And sometimes to add MORE is actually LESS in terms of the quality of the game play. The game is already a deep strategy game, so we fear that the complexity of the game will rise to unknown heights, if we add a lot of specific abilities now. That's why, we are very cautious with this topic and will add only the portion which is tested and already approved from our designers team (s. f.e. the Hero Sheets down below). The rest will come with the expansions. Please watch the reviews, all of them emphasize one thing - that the game is actually easy to learn and accessible, but very complex and deep as it is in the basic version.

* Designer team note: The game material shown in the OTSBGR and Board Game Brawl videos are very early PROTOTYPE - The reviewers got the game a few weeks ago and meanwhile, we've improved a lot the design of the cards and other components like the Oracle and Game Board.
We lowered the shipping costs as much as possible for this campaign. The main shipping prices are described in the pledge categories and they will not change, if you pledge the category as described!
But we have to explain some special cases. For example if you want to put some ad-ons in a specific pledge category. This action has the impact, that you will add unknown weight to something, that is calculated as it is and in the most cases even 200 gr. (f.e. for one T-shirt or a dice box) could change dramatically the shipping cost situation, since the most of our rewards are calculated to be under 2 kg. - it counts as a "small package" and has relatively low shipping costs worldwide. Even in this case we cover a big part of the shipping costs to many overseas and other countries just to be able to offer you the best possible basic shipping conditions for the "basic" reward levels. But with all stretch goals unlocked, we will be really on the edge of this limit of 2 kg. and we will face completely new situation.
So our solution for this problem: if we reach the $80 000 stretch goal please add $5 for every add-on you pledged in addition to the standard levels, because the weight of the delivery package will overstep the 2 kg. limitation and the shipping costs will be more than doubled. Please note: in this case Fantasmagoria will cover even bigger share of the increased shipping price, so the $5 will be your more or less "symbolical" contribution to the changed situation. In this case we will ask all backers with add-ons to increase their pledge on a voluntary base supporting us to solve the difficult shipping problem.
Before reaching the $80 000 stretch goal everything stays as it is .... no pledge changes have to be made! In general all of this concerns only ADD-ON backers, but if you want to help us out with the difficult situation feel free to add $5 as standard pledge backer. We highly appreciate this!
One more thing: please note that we've tried to calculate a great game with a lot of components and cool miniatures plus many additional stuff as stretch goals to a very low basic price! We hope that you will understand, that the pricing for shipment is out of our scope and we can do a lot of compromises, but somewhere we have to make the final cut.

Born in Sofia/Bulgaria in 1976. He graduated the German High School in Sofia and later the University of Muenster in Germany, where he studied Economics and Marketing. During his time as a student in Germany he started to play board games with the Settlers of Catan in 1996 and he became a passionate player for the next almost 20 years. He always dreamed to create an own game and to work as a board game publisher and designer. In 2012 Alex started his first own project called "BATTALIA: The Creation" and together with his wife and some friends worked on this project more than 3 years. ....and now the year is 2015 and a dream is about to became a reality...

Born on 14.04.1978 in Gabrovo, Bulgaria. Graduated high school in 1997 in Sofia. After four years in University, starts a job as a product manager in books distributing company. She started to play board games at her early twenties and since then had spent many days and nights rolling the dice and trying to smash her opponents. Yes, definitely a competitive player.
Albena Noveva - 2D creative Artist, Graphic design & Animation.
Born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1979. Graduated Technical university - Sofia. Master's degree in "Textile Sciences and Engineering". Worked as a graphic designer for 10 years. Currently part of the very creative team of BATTALIA:THE CREATION as an illustrator.
Atanas Lozanski - 2D creative Artist & Graphic design.
Born in 1991, in Bulgaria, a 2D concept artist, studied in an art oriented high school, worked as a freelancer, currently works in Fantasmagoria Games as a 2D concept artist.
Vasil Hristov - 3D creative Artist - Modeling & Animation.
Born on 30.01.1988, living in Bulgaria. He studied crafts and arts for over 10 years now. Obtained a professional qualification in "Design and Theory of Children's Toys" at High School for Applied Crafts and Arts - Sofia and after that graduated with a Bachelors degree diploma in Graphics and Illustration at "New Bulgarian University". Currently employed by Fantasmagoria Games and is working on the Battalia: TC project.
Borislav Barzev - 3D creative Artist - Concept & Modeling.
Born in the long forgotten 1984 and since then an artist by heart. A 3D Designer. Humble and nice. Works best with whatever you've got! A fan of board games and PC games.

Risks and challenges
On one hand we are just a small company and this is our first Kickstarter project, but on the other we have been publishing board games for the past five years now. We are cooperating with more than 30 famous publishers like FFG, KOSMOS, Hans im Glueck, AMIGO, IELLO and others. During this time we have published Bulgarian localized editions of many worldwide popular board games such as “Game Of Thrones: The Board Game”, “Sid Meier’s Civilization”, “The Legends Of Andor”, “Ubongo”, “Carcassonne”, “Wizard”, “Atlantis”, “ King Of Tokyo”, etc… This means a lot of EXPERIENCE for us! Our production sites are located mainly in Germany, US and China, so international logistics are not an obstacle for us and meanwhile we know very well how to play the “big game” called PUBLISHING.
Please note: the estimated delivery date is mid-November 2015, but please keep in mind that this is only an informed guess. Also, due to the logistics of international shipping backers in different regions of the world may receive their rewards sooner than others. We will do our best to minimize this as much as possible, but if for some totally unforeseen reason the game can't be delivered at all we are always ready to refund pledges in full.
Of course, there are risks with every project, but we hope that our track record in publishing and our commitment to do everything as good as possible will gain your trust in us , dear Backer! Battalia: The Creation will be our first own “baby” and we don’t want to do anything wrong after two and a half years of development.
Production shipping or customs delays are always possible, but since our game is 95% complete, a small delay is probably the worst thing that could occur on this project. The most sophisticated part of our project is probably the production of the Battalia heroes. Yes, exactly – these large and beautiful, but really complicated for production figurines. They are expensive, the process takes a lot of time and commitment, but the result is really worth the effort . To ensure a smooth and accurate production and delivery, we are cooperating with an old partner who is among , the best production factories in Germany - a renown specialist in the board game field with really high quality standards for everything they produce – miniatures, game material, game board, boxes and so on…. This should put everyone's minds at ease, regarding quality and delivery schedule!
We have no reason to expect that something could go terribly wrong, but in case that this happens, please check our refund policy.
We can refund you within 60 days of the campaign’s end, charges included, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. After this period a refund without any explanation is still possible, though that’s minus Kickstarter and Stripe payment processing fees (as we will not be refunded by them after this 60 day period). However, once we’ve begun packaging your rewards for shipment (usually 6 weeks before the actual shipping date), refunds are no longer possible.
Important: If a game or component cannot be delivered at all (which is very unlikely), at your wish we will refund you the full amount, including fees, or we will try to work with you per e-mail and find a satisfactory solution for your individual case.
Please note: All refunds requested during the original 60 day period are returned to your credit card via Stripe. Refunds requested after this period will be processed via PayPal only!
