Hotel Magnate is a hotel and resort tycoon with a retro ‘80s vibe. If you’ve been searching for a totally radical tycoon experience, then look no further. Hotel Magnate adds a unique twist to the wackiness, customizability, humor, and engaging management gameplay you know and love.
You will build your magnificent hotel from the ground up, customizing any detail you desire to suit your tastes or attract a certain kind of guest. Choose your room type, lay down the foundations, and get to work on adding your special touch to the final design. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.
You know what isn’t easy? Managing the thing once you’ve built it. Hotel Magnate doesn’t skimp on the management aspect, requiring you to hire the right staff, tend to the needs of guests, maintain rooms and machinery, and break out your marketing chops. It’s all about those ratings, and it certainly wouldn’t hurt to avoid fires while you’re at it.
- Build, furnish, and oversee your own multi-level hotel
- Tend to your guests' needs and demands, and attract wealthier clientele by improving facilities and securing better ratings
- Hire employees to clean, serve, manage, and maintain your hotel
- Take control of the inner-workings of your hotel by managing room prices, wages, restaurants, and many other operations
- Become adept at marketing to attract more guests and generate buzz
You need the right location to drop the bodacious bod of your new establishment. Of course, only money buys nice things, so you may have to start off small and work your way up. A plot in the middle of nowhere costs far less than a prime beachside stand, but you can build something beautiful either way. Each location will have different challenges, effects, and guest types, so plan accordingly.
Cosy, quaint, and completely isolated. It’s the perfect place to build a motel or bury a corpse. Whether you construct a desert oasis or woodland sanctuary, wary travellers and cheap holidaymakers will be glad to see your dodgy neon sign.
The Big City
Brave the bustling beehive known as the big city. Nothing screams money quite like setting up a shop in an economic hub. There’s an endless supply of business people, conference goers, and many more looking for an expensive room to call home for a night or two.
Claim your very own slice of paradise, then pitch a tent and start driving up those prices. A luxury beachside resort can be considered a hotel manager’s dream. Upon seeing your sign nestled between a few palm trees, you’ll know you’ve finally made it.
Let’s get physical! Once you’ve secured a piece of land through means of purchase or a duel, it’s time to start building. There’s an absolute buffet of options available to you for designing your hotel. Place walls, choose from an array of materials and colors to make each room unique, insert a few windows and doors, toss in furniture of your choice, and give it one final round of decoration to seal the deal.
Facilities are enormously important for ensuring guest happiness and attracting new clientele. Each one can attract certain types of patron, but may also send others running for the hills. Beyond essentials like four walls, a bed, and some form of bathroom (a bucket doesn’t count), there are a few more specialty facilities to consider.
For the health-conscious or muscle-minded, it would be wise to construct a gym with a sufficient spread of equipment. To satisfy the young or the typical midlife crisis, a nightclub would be a booming success. You can also never go wrong with opening an on-site restaurant, unless the food you serve triggers a national epidemic. There are plenty of options available to you, such as:
- Guest rooms and en-suite bathrooms
- Kitchens and laundry
- Bars & nightclubs
- Conference rooms
- Pools, gyms, & spas
- Tennis courts, playgrounds, & games rooms
- & much more!
There are plenty of small things that may add up, such as what kind of fittings you make use of (luxury attracts wealthier guests) or how low you set your alcohol prices (low prices attract riff-raff). You may not want your hotel to become known as a cheap dive or a sleazy resort, nor would you want to cater exclusively to the wealthy when your ratings do not yet reflect the utmost quality.
The staff you hire also plays an essential role in the smooth operation of your hotel. Workers have varying skill levels and wage demands, which you will need to properly consider based on the position they’re going to fill. A vile receptionist may turn guests away, and a shoddy maintenance worker might do a poor job of avoiding equipment failure.
The hospitality industry is rather crowded, so getting the word out about your hotel is of the utmost importance. A solid marketing campaign is a great way to attract attention, but all of that is for naught if your ratings are terrible. Guests have the power to endorse or destroy you. Don’t let them down!
Monitor your guests’ reviews to get a better idea of where you can improve. Is the accommodation awful? Is your staff unfriendly or incompetent? Did you forget to build doors? These are important complaints to take note of. Once you feel that your hotel is up to scratch, it’s time to start advertising. Run marketing campaigns across newspapers, television sets, radio stations, or even the internet. Your chosen advertising platforms, as well as your overall ratings, often dictate what type of guest you’re likely to attract.
Hotel Magnate will include a full campaign mode throwing you headfirst into the shoes of an industrious hotel manager. Grow your hotel empire from a small roadside motel to a whole network of luxurious resorts. If you aren't quite in the mood for an intense career mode, you can enjoy all of the freedom our sandbox mode has to offer. Design and build to your heart's content!
We have been working on Hotel Magnate purely in a part-time capacity for the past 2 years, which is certainly far from ideal. Progress is slow, and maintaining a balance between survival (earning enough to stay alive) and making the game can be difficult. It’s been a passion marathon, that’s for sure, and we’re finally ready to push this project to the forefront. Your support will give us the freedom to make this game the hotel tycoon we’ve all dreamed of. We will be able to dedicate far more time to every aspect and even bring extra talent in to add a glorious sheen.

Risks and challenges
A small indie games studio such as ours is sure to be faced with a few challenges and setbacks along the way. There is no real safety net, and we do not have access to the same level of tools, expertise, and funding that a larger studio may possess. However, we do have the advantage of being the masters of our own fate, which allows us to fully engage with the community, listen to problems and suggestions, and work with everyone to create something incredible. We’ll be listening to feedback and keeping everyone informed about the game’s status throughout development. If trouble arises, you’ll be the first to know. When we achieve something great, we’ll celebrate it with you. Community is the most important aspect of any game, and we want to preserve that.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
