About

The Movement of Colour Series

Self reflection and discovery are continuous in our personal pursuits allowing us to grow. Movement of Colour is a photographic series that reflects on each seven centres of spiritual power in the human body, utilizing yoga as it's foundations.

Each image is awash with colour representing one of the seven chakras that inhabit the human body. Through the union of shape and colour these minimalist photographs focus on mindfulness and self reflection. Giving the audience a point of focus to help enhance their own meditative state and focus their energy on that particular chakra.

 How were these images made?

We have been planning this shoot for a couple of years and over that time the concept has evolved and been distilled to it's simplest form of colour and body shape. After months worth of production and preparation, the images were shot over three days in London. Each of the 5x yoga models were body painted by Turpin and professional body painter Lauren Kay. The paint was a combination of different products to get the right sheen and more importantly the durability from the continuous rubbing of surfaces / body parts against the skin. The reason for the paint being black is to remove the ethnicity and appearance of the yoga teacher and created a blank canvas for the different colour lights to inhabit.

The images have been methodically planned to ensure the different poses align together when we retouched them together to create the new hybrid pose.

Checking Print Quality

We are printing on Kodak Metallic which has a rich metallic base. The colours have a reflective, metallic and 3-dimensional feel. High mid-tones & highlights add luminosity & iridescence.

This is the same paper stock and process as the exhibition prints.

The difference between the Indigo and the C-Type printing is that C-Types are the ultimate professional photographic archival prints; silver based Digital C-types are real photographic prints, created on light sensitive paper using a finely balanced red, green & blue light source. This creates an analogue style print from a digital file with unparalleled depth, subtlety of tonal variation and shadow detail.

WIRACOCHA - MOVEMENT OF COLOUR
WIRACOCHA - MOVEMENT OF COLOUR

The eighth chakra, located a few inches above our heads, is where we experience a deep union with all of Creation, and the Creator.  Also known as the 'source of the sacred”, it corresponds to the Christian concept of the soul, which is personal and finite. The eighth chakra resides within the Luminous Energy Field and hovers above the head like a golden spinning sun. We often see this chakra illustrated in paintings as the light (halo) surrounding Christ, the Buddha or other religious figures.

The Exhibition

The Blitz Factory
The Blitz Factory

The exhibition will be an open exhibition across two weekend in June. Housed within The Blitz Factory, Walthamstow, London, UK. Part of God's Own Junk Yard the exhibition space is home to beautiful neon artwork. With the combination of the atmospheric lighting omitted by the neon and with the final exhibition prints encompassing neon on them the audience will have a cast of varying coloured light illuminated onto them as they view the work.

We will also be encompassing specifically designed breathing techniques which have been developed to enhance the experience of the work when done in conjunction with viewing the work and stimulate the particular chakra the image represents.

The timings of the exhibition will be in association with E17 Art Trail in Waltham Forrest and the Creativity and Wellness Week in London.

Risks and challenges

The photo shoots have already been executed, we have fully retouched and colour tested the imagery by running a variation of proofs on different paper stock to find the best printing finish for each size. We have partnered with a London based reportable printing company that can ensure the quality that we desire is fulfilled with each order and received by you in the same pristine state it was ordered and sent out. We are looking for your support to make this happen, these offers are exclusive to Kickstarter and without your support you won't be able to purchase the project at these sizes anywhere else.
