Heather + Marco decided to quit the city life and move to a wild remote surf town called Tofino in Canada to open BASIC GOODNESS PIZZERIA. After years of working in fashion and design in the urban sprawl of Los Angeles and New York, they wanted a slow life connected to nature with a lifestyle to prioritize relationships, creativity, and the pleasures of food. They decided on Tofino as their destination and a pizzeria as their offering. Their intention is simple: To make happy food with simple ingredients in a very traditional way with lots of passion and heart.
To create true and delicious Neapolitan pizza, it is essential that BASIC GOODNESS is equipped with a Wood Fire Oven.
Set to open Summer 2017, BASIC GOODNESS is an intimate cozy pizzeria with a wood fire oven, stunning sea views, and a true Neapolitan crafting your pizzas. The space is designed around the essentials to feed the energy and atmosphere of our community, featuring an open kitchen to engage our customers in the art, passion, and history of making pizza, the Neapolitan way. BASIC GOODNESS will not just be a place to nourish your body but also your soul. With a beautiful Italian wine list, specialty cocktails, and really good beer on tap, it is the perfect place to relax and connect with friends. Our menu will headline eight different pizza creations plus a weekly special, antipasto plates, salads, and desserts including Marco’s specialty Tiramisu.

Tofino is a small town on the west coast of Vancouver Island in Canada. We are surrounded by ancient rainforest, flying overhead eagles, crystal clear waters, and distant white glaciers. With natural hot springs and expansive white sandy beaches that offer world class surfing year round ( winter swells can measure up to 40ft ), this place is pure magic. There is a thriving sophisticated culinary scene here, cool places to stay, and endless adventures to get deeper into the wildlife. Tofino is easily reachable by plane from Vancouver in 35 minutes ( five hours by car + ferry ). The sweet secret of Tofino is starting to be shared by some notable publications, written up in New York Times 52 Places to go in 2017, Travel + Leisure voted Tofino | 50 Best Places to Travel in 2017, Bon Appetit, Sunset Magazine voted Tofino | Best Beach Town to visit in 2017.
We have secured the perfect location for the BASIC GOODNESS PIZZERIA on Tofino's main street and are excited to say we are on track for our opening this summer. With our location in order, we are now turning our focus to making sure we can deliver our pizzas with the best quality and authenticity possible. Marco has studied and worked under master Pizzaiolo in his hometown of Naples, Italy and is very excited to bring his traditions, expertise, and passion to the community of Tofino. To do this, it is essential we have a very important element to cook a true and delicious Neapolitan pizza - A Wood Fire Oven.
We are turning to you: our friends, our family, our new community of Tofino and to lovely strangers from all over who might dig what we are up to…we are excited to meet you!
We have many rewards for you, whether you live in Tofino, are planning to visit one day soon or in the future, or just want to support our work from afar and have us send you a lovely token from BASIC GOODNESS. From pizzas of your choice to cooking classes with Marco to goods designed for BASIC GOODNESS by Heather Heron - we hope there is something here that you will enjoy for your support in helping us secure our Wood Fire Oven.
Heather's work has been featured in Vogue, New York Times, Oprah, Wallpaper, Vanity Fair + Domino. See all of our pledge levels in the right column for details on these and other rewards.
