The GRAFT is a nine-song, three-act live show featuring music, video, and real-time audience participation via social media. The show starts with with the experience of hitting rock bottom, continues through a process of healing and learning, and ends with finding happiness and love.
Throughout the show, questions will appear on the video screen inviting audience members to share their own struggles and life lessons via Twitter (@applythegraft) using their smartphones. Some of the audience responses will then be shown live on the video screen. By sharing their own experiences with the experiences in portrayed in The GRAFT, the show becomes both personal and universal, demonstrating that we are not alone in our struggles, and that healing is accessible to everyone, no matter how far they've fallen from grace.
The GRAFT stands for the five songs that make up the second act, and the five stages of the healing process outlined in the show:
The goal of The GRAFT is not to give anyone the answers to their life's problems. The goal of The GRAFT is to give people questions they can ask to lead them on the path to healing, happiness, and love.
Risks and challenges
The GRAFT is a team effort, and if setbacks or obstacles arise, Team GRAFT has members with experience and connections in theater, music, visual arts, IT, live performance, business and social media to tackle any problems that come our way.
The biggest challenges will be securing the best possible theater for the show and determining showtimes so that everyone who bought a ticket here on Kickstarter can attend. Once The GRAFT is funded, we will keep everyone informed via email and social media of when and where in New York City the show will take place. We will post a preliminary schedule of showtimes and then finalize the performance schedule following feedback from our Kickstarter backers.
The other challenge we are likely to encounter is incorporating photos and videos we receive from our Kickstarter backers into the video for The GRAFT. Please see below for guidelines and restrictions for photo & video submissions)
*Photos must be non-copyrighted, and you must have permission of everyone shown in the photo to use their image and/or likeness as part of a public performance. Any photos submitted must be approved by the creators of The GRAFT before being included in The GRAFT full-length performance video. If any content provided is deemed inappropriate for the full-length video, or if we are unable to use the photo(s) or video provided by a backer for any reason, the backer can either submit another photo/video or receive a refund of their donation.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
