Barobot is an open source device that pours cocktails by mixing alcohol, soft drinks and sodas. It holds up to 12 bottles and can pour a drink with millitary accuracy!
Barobot features over 1000 cocktail recipes or gives you the option to create your own on the fly. All can be easily accessed via our custom made application on your touchscreen or the user friendly interface on your Smartphone.
Barobots frame - made of either deep black or transparent acrylic glass, comes in either a self assembly kit or an assembled ‘plug and pour’ version. The flat-pack self assembly kit requires no advanced skills or tools (it's great fun to put together by itself!). Barobot is also illuminated with over 100 individually controlled LEDs that might be set to a number of light-themes or even synchronised to music!

Mixing drinks at home parties might prove a challenge if you are not a trained bartender with professional equipment. It requires remembering many recipes and accurate measures which could be disastrous if you forget, more importantly, it distracts you from interacting with your guests. Barobot takes care of your bar tending needs allowing you to focus on your friends.
What’s more, with Barobots cool, stylish looks and smooth moves during cocktail creation we guarantee it will bring additional 'WOW' factor to your party. Just put the bottles in, choose a drink and enjoy. During testing, Barobot has been host to several parties, guests all agreed that it added to the atmosphere which created unique social interactions. Barobot was indeed the star of the show!

Our project would never exist if not for the open source community. Therefore Barobot is a completely open-source project. This means that we have published all the hardware designs and software code under GPL license.
More than that, a full list of components and assembly manual will help you build the machine from scratch!
We are makers and encourage you to make your own versions of a bartender robot basing on what we’ve achieved so far. We hope to create a community of makers and hackers like us who will tinker and add even more cool features to their machines.
Barobot’s frame made of laser cut acrylic glass is a stable base for even the heaviest bottles. It comes in either Monolith Black or Pure Crystal version. The Monolith Blacks smooth, black, lustrous frame looks great and is a strong statement in any interior. On the other hand the Pure Crystals translucent design shows all its electronics, bearings and motors, so if you love watching how everything works, the Pure Crystal version is best for you.
The mobile platform on which the glass moves effortlessly between the individual bottles is the heart of Barobot. Fluid movements of the engine and servomotors transport the glass under the appropriate dispenser, where a nozzle doses accurate amounts of liquid. Because liquors pour into glass from some height they mix well together without the need for additional shaking. We have our heads full of ideas for further improvement - we are thinking of a device that allows the making of multilayer drinks. How we succeed, depends also on your support!
“Nothing can spill” was our principle whilst creating Barobot. That’s why the mobile platform has in-built highly sensitive weight and magnetic field sensors. Barobot won’t pour anything if it doesn’t sense the weight of a glass in the correct place. We know, however, that at a party it’s impossible to control everything (and everyone), so if somebody accidentally knocks over the glass and spills the liquid, there are always two removable trays that will protect your furniture and floor from spillage accidents.
Barobot can hold up to 12 common sizes of bottles - from 0,5l up to 2,5l (e.g. party-size coke bottle). Dispensers are tight and accurate, won’t drip a drop and will fit every standard bottleneck. Brackets are both flexible and firm when holding the bottles in place. Installation and removal of the bottles before, during or after the party is childs play. Typically one load of bottles can produce over 100 drinks.
The dispenser capacities are 20ml and 50 ml measures. The smaller dispensers are best for all alcohol measures, the larger more adept to fill your drink quickly with juice or soda. Barobot can also pour part measures - so there’s no problem with pouring 10ml or 5ml if drink recipe requires such amounts of liquids. If you prefer to calculate in ounces, our application allows you to switch easily between measurement systems.
Barobot has 104 colorful LED diodes which can be individually adjusted to your music, mood or colour preferences. Some highlight the mobile glass platform, the rest highlight the bottles. There’s plenty of fun in playing with the colours, and you can truly be the creator of its look.
No robot is complete without electronics! Barobot is operated by a hybrid system of Android tablet and Arduino-compatible distributed electronics. Low level electronic features 14 microprocessors on the dedicated, easy to connect boards. It collects data from various sensors and tells motors and LEDs what to do. The whole system is controlled by a 7 inch tablet which serves as Barobots brain and user interface. The architecture is open and if you feel like adding a new sensor or actuator (proximity sensor? RFID to identify your guests?), you can connect it to the board. But if you want no rocket science, the user friendly tablet interface is all you will ever see.
Our application has been created for people who want a party with no fuss! The intuitive interface answering the user’s needs was put first on our list of priorities. The application allows the user to choose a drink easily according to their individual preference and available drink ingredients.
The drinks database will have over 1000 recipes, including classics, non-alcoholic drinks and, for the experimental, new trends in drink compositions.
With such a large number it’s easy to get confused - to avoid it, our application lets you choose your drink by flavour, colour or ingredient preferences. For the undecided or bravest we have a “I feel lucky” option - Barobot will surprise you with something special! A “Browse history” functionality allows you to get back to that tasty mixture you tried an hour or a party ago!
You haven’t found anything that suits you? You want to create your own concoction? It couldn’t be easier, choose your favourite ingredients to be poured and voila, It’s as easy as 1,2,3!
During party-testing we noticed that with such a large number of drinks in our database many people spent a lot of time browsing through the menu. With our “Sofa Server” application you won’t need to physically go up to Barobot, instead, via your tablet or smartphone and local WIFI network, you can search and order your drink from the comfort of your own seat. Then all you need to do is collect it! At the moment “Sofa Server” has just passed proof of concept stage so we know how to do it. Yet its full implementation requires effort and your Kickstarter pledge is what we need to accomplish this task.
We designed the interface with the notion that it may be used by slightly intoxicated people, late at night, so we made everything clear and simple. So as not to confuse users, we decided to hide all the more demanding functionalities in the options area i.e. where you define what bottles are installed in Barobot or choosing/creating your lighting themes.

We are a team of passionate people from Poland with makers backgrounds. We are united by an innovative concept of bartender droid creation and the love of a good beverage! A startup company founded by two of us is the vessel for a group of young professionals from different fields to create awesomeness!
For the last 15 months have been working on subsequent prototypes of Barobot. We quit our regular jobs and spent thousands of hours and hard work to make the best product possible (having a lot of fun on the way too). We believe that by building Barobots and sharing the design with the community we help to make the world a little less virtual and a little more personal.
After several prototypes we reached a point where Barobot hardware designs are fully functional and production is ready. The software has all of the basic functions implemented and tested very well during numerous trials, in live party environments.
Creating one Barobot is possible with funds we already have. But to start mass production and deliver the Barobot fun to others we need to purchase components in bulk to lower unit costs. With your help we also plan to add more cool features to software. The Kickstarter funds will allow us to literally ‘kickstart’ mass production of the robots and spread the party droid idea around the world!

The Product testing phase of Barobot has been thorough and provided us with the most fun! Mechanical, electrical and software designs are solid.
The biggest challenge now is managing the supply chain. We need to collect all the parts before we can send the package to you, so we need to orchestrate our deliveries well. Our team members' procurement and logistics experience will be of immense help in this area.
For all the, off-the-shelf and custom made parts components we have at least two verified suppliers. This way we can shift from one to the other in the event of supply issues. The same applies to Barobot custom made parts: laser-cut frames and electronics. We took extra precautions in this area by visiting suppliers and doing several rounds of test runs.
One thing that we are unsure of is production rate. Whilst we have experience in preparing industrial-scale production, the medium-scale batches we expect for Barobot are a slightly different matter. A successful Kickstarter campaign will give us greater ability to overcome any obstacles by hiring additional people and bringing more production capability in-house.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
No. Barobot is not intended to substitute anybody. Bartending is an art, what Barobot does is just creating tasty cocktails from liquids. We wholeheartedly believe these machines won’t replace humans anytime soon, but will only make life a bit more fun. Especially in places which may lack professional bartender anyway like house parties, weddings or networking events.
Barobot can mix liquids well. They fall to the glass from high enough to mix effectively. On top of that carriage movements act as additional stirring. But in current form Barobot can’t do shaking by itself. Whenever we needed shaking we just put shaker instead the glass into Barobot and did the shaking manually after robot finished it's job. Not perfect but it works.
Actually, all you need to do is to one-click remove dispensers from Barobot and drop them into warm water with some soap for a few minutes. And this applies to soft drinks only and you can do it the next day after the using Barobot. It is just as dishwasing after the party. Liquor dispensers can stay in the machine as long as you want. After all liquors do not spoil in bottles, so they won’t in dispensers.
No, that is not needed as long as you reload it with the same liquids. Obviously if you used grenadine first and you want to install whisky instead to the very same position, we advise you to clean it first for the sake of taste.
No, because they are quite costly and don’t handle carbonated liquids well. We wanted to avoid tubing too. Barobot features well seasoned and cost effective solution of bar optic measures/dispensers. They are very reliable and make use of gravity.
Simple answer: because of costs and size.
Longer answer: If you ever saw back of your fridge you know the size of heat exchanger. There is also a compressor. Both of them take space and would look ackward on the robot if it was to produce ice. There are alternative ways of making ice or freezing things like eg. Peltier modules but they are impractical due to low efficiency.
All of that would also add to the cost of the robot and didn’t want to add so much for a single ice feature.
At the same time this is open source project. We hope that community will come up with an elegant solution of this issue.
