August 25th Update
WE DID IT! With your support we were able to raise above and beyond the $25,000 dollars in just 16 days! Each of us can firmly say that this is something we never expected. We didn't see it unfolding like this, and we're all still in a state of shock!
When we met our goal, it left us wondering where we go from here. Well, we set a new goal and want to announce something special! Throughout this Kickstarter campaign we've heard a lot of you asking about acoustic versions of our songs (both new and old). We have a radical idea of how we can make those available and we want to achieve it with your support! Here are the details...
Late last year, our van bit the dust. We had put over 130K miles on it in just two years of touring! The cost of the repairs would have been more than the van was worth, so we turned to Craigslist and sold it for a mere $300 cash. So for our next goal, we would like to raise an additional $15,000 to help us buy a new, reliable vehicle so we can get from city to city without fear of breaking down or having to miss shows (heaven forbid, but it has happened).
In return, if we can meet this new goal, we will record an Acoustic EP of songs that WILL BE CHOSEN BY YOU, OUR BACKERS! Not only that, but everyone who has supported or will support us at level C or higher will automatically receive the Acoustic EP!
We cannot thank you enough for caring so much about us and the music we create. Each of us has felt so affirmed by your support. We're excited that all of you are directly involved in this record and we can't wait to see what happens.
Our original post...
As many of you know, we have been working on a new album for quite a while now. In fact, some of you have probably been going through the same range of emotions as we have: excitement, impatience, mild anxiety . . . etc. Well, the album is finally done and almost ready to be released! Why almost?? We still need your support to get this album into your hands, so we have started this Kickstarter campaign to help us with the final funding surrounding this release. What's so cool about Kickstarter and why we chose this route to announce our new album is that it allows us to engage with you in a very direct way.
We have released an album independently, and then again with a label. Now that we are independent once again, it seems only natural that we would release this album and tour the country (and hopefully the world this time) while maintaining as much financial and creative control as possible. Obviously, both releasing an album and touring require financial support. We considered looking for this support a number of different places, but it eventually became evident that the most important thing that has always supported us . . . is you. Throughout our existence, we have been continually reminded that we cannot create art on an island. That is to say, we rely on our listeners and friends to complete the creative loop. We need you!
For your pledges, we are offering a variety of neat things ranging from material (vinyl, posters, t-shirts), to a private concert for you and 50 friends anywhere in the US! Keep in mind, while the "Estimated Delivery" is listed as December 2011, we are in the final stages of choosing a release date and strategy. You could very well have our new album before then, and we will do our best to keep everyone updated on when to expect their rewards throughout this process.
While it was fun to come up with the different things people would receive through their giving, we all came away with a new understanding of the critical relationship between the band and its fans. This whole experience has been a labor of love, but it has indeed been a labor. It has stretched us incredibly, not only in the album creation, but in our relationships as friends. It has given us a new appreciation and perspective for what we do and why we are doing it. Thank you for visiting this site and we will be sure to post updates and check-ins regularly. As always, you can check in with us on both Facebook and Twitter to get down to the minute updates if you're curious.
We cannot wait for you to hear this, and we'll see you soon.
