WE ARE FUNDED! THANK YOU! HOWEVER, IF YOU JUST GOT HERE WITH THE INTENTION TO DONATE A DOLLAR OR 10, PLEASE, DO SO! THE MORE MONEY, THE BETTER-QUALITY GLUE FOR THE POSTERS WE CAN GET, THE BETTER THE FINAL RESULT!

We are a group of instructors working at Faison Elementary as a part of Pittsburgh Summer Dreamers Academy. What is Summer Dreamers? A free summer program offered to all students attending public schools in Pittsburgh.

We at Faison focus on arts. We work with elementary school kids from Homewood, an underserved area of Pittsburgh (the median household income in Homewood is $13,000 below that of Pittsburgh) and when we heard about the Inside Out Project, we felt the need to incorporate it into our summer curriculum.

So what is it that we want to do? We want to teach our kids how to take portraits and, with the help of the Inside Out Project, print them out and paste them on selected (and approved by the owners!) sites in Homewood, Pittsburgh.  We have 96 students and we want them all to be heard. We want to use the posters as a way to represent the youth in Homewood and the surrounding areas, to give the students a chance to delve into the areas of portraiture and photography, while being part of a larger project that could enhance their community. These experiential learning opportunities foster collaborationpride, and intrinsic motivation, all of which are areas that our students could benefit from.

Why? By choosing to paste our work for the world to see, we would be beautifying the community and, most importantly, showing the students that they have the ability to change their community through art. We want to empower them through art!

And where will your money go?Into printing out the posters. All of it.

PS: What else? There will be a websitedocumenting the process, collecting the students' stories, informing you about everything that has happened. We want you to learn more about us!
