Hey friend! Thanks for taking a peek at our project. We've returned to Kickstarter with our take on your favorite accessory—the backpack.
The BankNote Backpack:
Here at BankNote NYC, we're dedicated to providing luxury quality at accessible prices. We're also committed to making products that people actually want, which is why we have worked for months perfecting solutions to this everyday accessory.
This is why you'll love this bag...
What it's made from:
The BankNote Backpack is constructed from a water-resistant canvas with our signature Italian leather accents from the unpronounceable town of Arzignano. We don't make any compromises on quality; we have sourced only the highest-quality materials to use in the production of this backpack.
The BankNote Backpack continues our focus on functional design."The details" are important to us. That's why we bound the interior with cork fabric. It's one of those touches that's just for you, and it's bound to make you smile (no pun intended).
In order to maximize comfort and protect your laptop we've included padding on the backside of this pack, ensuring that your laptop is safe in its pocket and you live a life free from back problems.
And to make sure the straps and hardware are built to last we used a synthetic cotton and all metal components for the webbing and hardware. No plastic, no problem.
Thanks to backer feedback, we're also offering the straps in two colors: natural and black.
All backpacks have their weak points, and we tackled these issues with the strength and grace of 1,000 ballerinas. Using industrial manufacturing techniques and proven sewing practices we're confident this backpack can be the last one you ever buy. Seriously, this thing is durable.
How it's made:
Quality—it's what we're all about. That's why we choose to control our production process, making our goods in small batches here in NYC. It's how we're able to maintain the high standard we hold ourselves to.
John, an artisan leatherworker, makes each backpack himself. He has over 25 years of experience with this sort of thing, but we'll get more into that later. For now, check out this video of John making one of the samples.
Your backpack will be made just like this one! No surprises here.
How it looks:
Now for a little more about us...
The BankNote NYC Family
Our team is small, good-looking, and savvy—just like a sports car.
John, the man behind the machine:
John is originally from Armenia, but moved to NY over 30 years ago. He started a factory in Manhattan, and honed his skill over 25 years of making leather goods—everything from wallets to briefcases. A master artisan, his passion for his craft is unparalleled and his skill is unrivaled.
Bjorn, the man who will be answering your emails:
Bjorn is a founder of BankNote NYC and will be managing all fulfillment and customer service. (Actually, I'm writing this right now and I have to say: I can't wait to start fielding your questions) Originally a scientist from the state of Nevada, Bjorn has since moved to Brooklyn to design and create cool stuff.
Gina, the woman who will be making the notebooks:
Oh that's right, you're getting a notebook with your backpack.
Gina hand-makes the notebooks in West Caldwell, NJ. She cuts, stitches, and stamps each one with the utmost care. By the way, she's an amazing artist. You can check out her work here.
They're mostly just backpacks, and they come in four colors:
Large enough to fit most modern laptops and small enough not to slow you down, the dimensions of the BankNote Backpack make it the perfect size for an everyday pack.
Use of Funds
Our campaign goal is mostly derived from the minimum quantities of materials we need to purchase in order to get wholesale prices. Variable costs are based on the assumption that we will sell 60 backpacks, but will scale with the number of orders we get. All figures are rough estimates based on quotes and not exact.
We're confident in the accuracy of this timeline, it gives us plenty of time to work with and gives you a sensible expectation. If anything we'd like to be able to ship before the 15th, but we'd rather under-promise and over-deliver than disappoint.
Even in the case that this campaign goes mega viral and we get tens of thousands of orders it won't slow down our production process very much. John has decades of experience manufacturing at scale, and he has the expertise and connections to manage almost any number of orders. We'll be able to ship the packages as fast as we can print the labels.
The BankNote Backpack project is the culmination of over six months of hard work, challenges, doubts, and triumphs. This is our "all or nothing" moment and we really want to succeed. So please, share this campaign with your friends, follow our Instagram, and remember: we've got your back.
Thanks for reading,
Bjorn, John, and Gina
Risks and challenges
A quick search for "BankNote" on Kickstarter and a brief scan of the comments on our past campaigns will show that we take fulfillment very seriously and do our best to make sure our backers are well taken care of. Customer service is one of our top priorities.
One of the challenges we are dealing with this campaign is lead times for materials. The leather and cork fabric both come from Italy, and the zippers have to be made to order in California. We left ourselves plenty of time to allow for these delivery times, but you never know what might happen. We will be ordering materials ASAP to mitigate this risk.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
