The Richert brothers, Jim and Ed, along with brewmasters, Walter Ornelas and Oscar Sanchez, founded Banging Gavel Brews in Chicago, Illinois in 2014. Jim and Ed were in search of a brewery, where they could share their appreciation for micro-brewed craft beers with others. They met Walter and Oscar, and it all fell into place. Their enthusiasm for great tasting beers brought them together and led to the desire to develop their own brews. They brought on board advertising and marketing expert, Beckie O’Connor, to generate the buzz.
Banging Gavel Brews creates micro-brewed craft beer that serves memorable experiences to those who share Banging Gavel Brews' passion for high quality, great tasting beer.
Banging Gavel Brews Today
As you may expect being a Home Brewer, we're working out of our head brewmaster's home, brewing in his garage and fermenting in the basement. We have a great small batch system that we plan to keep long term for testing and for experimental and limited release batches.
We've got the team in place to take Banging Gavel Brews to the next level, made up of a verbose lawyer, a meticulous CPA, a creative marketing savant, oh yeah, we have award-winning brewers as well (shameless plug for our 3rd place finish in the 2014 Charlie Orr Memorial Chicago Cup Challenge).
Where You Come In
With your support, we will kickstart Banging Gavel Brews from a home brewer to a fully Licensed Craft Brewery in a New Home (with a tasting room).
The Wish list
- Permanent home (Walter's Garage isn't going to cut it forever)
- Taproom (Location to create those memorable experiences )
- Equipment (It's shiny; do we need to explain this more?)
- Ingredients (Hop-less beer tastes funny)
- Licensing fees (The Lawyer/co-founder/president says this is important)
- Distribution (Gotta get it to the People)
This wish list set us up with a defined purpose to create micro-brewed craft beer that serves up memorable experiences to those who share Banging Gavel Brews' passion for high quality, great tasting beer.
Our Vision is for the Future
Upon completion of this Kickstarter Campaign, the real work begins. We have to build our permanent home set up built out into a brewery and taproom, where people can come by for a taste or host private parties in a fun atmosphere complete with live music.
Risks and challenges
Upon funding, two challenges will stand in the way of the Banging Gavel Brew Crew from serving up memorable experiences to those who share in their passion for high quality, great tasting beer (1) a Permanent Home and (2) Licensing.
Permanent Home: While counter intuitive, in order to be fully licensed, we actually have to find a permanent home (outside of Walter's garage). Outside of contributing to our kickstarter campaign here is an area you, our wonderful fans, can help us out. We're looking for ideas on where to call home in or around Chicago. Our current search is focused on the City of Chicago and its southwest suburbs (these are the areas where we live).
Licensing: Moving from a home brewer to a licensed craft brewer will take a whole lot of time and money (hence the Kickstarter campaign). Luckily, as the name implies, at Banging Gavel Brews we know a good lawyer that will be handling a lot of this for us (specifically Jim, our co-founder and president).
While we recognize these challenges are real and are not to be taken lightly, we're already working on these and plan to have the first challenge in the works by the time this Kickstarter campaign concludes. You can rest assured we're working hard toward making sure these challenges don't derail our legislative process.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
