What is Band of Dystopian?
Band of Dystopian (BOD) is a Facebook group, blog, and company dedicated to dystopian, apocalyptic, and post-apocalyptic books. Our mission is to help fans of dystopian fiction find books they will love, and help authors of the genre get the word out about their work. Our community of over 2,000 readers and authors has become a supportive, interactive, and insanely fun place to be. We are branching into the publishing world with our first anthology, Prep For Doom.
BOD's creators, Cheer Papworth and myself, Author ER Arroyo, are passionate about promoting books, and we've done so tirelessly since the group's inception. This anthology is a way to begin to allow BOD's endless stream of giveaways and author promotions to continue without becoming a financial strain.
Twenty of our authors have come together to support us, expecting nothing in return. They simply wish to give back to a community we've all come to love.
PREP FOR DOOM
Prep For Doom is a unique project born out of a lot of discussion with many authors from Band of Dystopian. We knew we wanted to do an anthology and someone mentioned writing in the same universe. Then (Bam!) the idea struck for us not only to write in the same realm, but in the same situation. From there the idea grew that we could assemble a book wherein each story was a chapter, with many of them interconnected in some way, each containing pieces of the same whole.
We've never seen a book like this before, and we couldn't be more excited about it!
From the imaginations of twenty authors of dystopian and post-apocalyptic fiction comes PREP FOR DOOM – an integrated collection of short stories that tell the tale of a single catastrophe as experienced by many characters, some of whom will cross paths.
What begins with a seemingly innocuous traffic accident soon spirals into a global pandemic. The release of Airborne Viral Hemorrhagic Fever upon New York City’s unsuspecting populace brings bloody suffering within hours, death within a day, and spreads worldwide within a month.
An online community called Prep For Doom has risen to the top of a recent doomsday preparation movement. Some have written them off as crazy while others couldn’t be more serious about the safety the preppers could provide in a global disaster. But when AVHF strikes, their preparation may not be enough to save them.
What We Need
The book is complete, and it's with the copy editor now. We've been so fortunate to have several people partner with us and provide their services for free, but there are still a number of expenses to be covered. Such as:
- Website domain and hosting
- Printed marketing materials for the book's debut at this year's UtopYA Conference in June, including a large banner (poster) and bookmarks
- PFD swag and merchandise
- U.S. copyright fee
- Shipping fees
- 50+ paperback copies (free copies for those who donated their services, including the authors, editors, and marketing team, copies to take to UtopYA for the debut, and copies for giveaways)
- Paperback copies for Kickstarter backers who choose rewards that include them
- All rewards and associated shipping costs
- Online marketing campaigns
- Any unexpected costs that might spring up
- Any (and all) surplus funds will be applied solely toward publishing and marketing Prep For Doom

We want this book to make a huge impact, and we want these authors to get the recognition they deserve. Marketing this book and reaching a large audience will give each author the opportunity to gain well-deserved exposure to new readers. They have selflessly given their time, talent, stories, and incredible characters to this book. We want to promote THEM like crazy in the process of promoting Prep For Doom, so your contributions will help us do that as well. Speaking of which, here they are:
Thanks so much for looking at our project! We hope you will back us and help bring this book to the wide audience it deserves!
We've assembled a wide variety of rewards to accommodate a range of backers' interests, making it easier for people to connect with us and support what we're doing. Most of the delivery dates are estimated for July, but many may be delivered sooner.
What would you like to see as a rewards option? We might be able to make it happen. Let us know what your ideas are!
Risks and challenges
We don't anticipate any issues as the book is well on its way to completion. We are on pace for a June 18th release date. However, with any project, unexpected delays can arise, and in that case, we will immediately alert our Kickstarter backers with details and will continue to update regarding any new developments.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
