About

Juliet - a film by Bandar Albuliwi
Juliet - a film by Bandar Albuliwi

Synopsis: Juliet, an astrophysicist, struggles to acclimate back to society after the passing of her husband.  The film follows her during a series of encounters on the one year anniversary of her husband's death.

I am raising money in order to begin production on my upcoming feature film, Juliet.  We will be shooting in New York City.  I am investing my entire life savings in order to make this personal film, however, I am still short the amount listed in order to begin production.  For post-production, I will rely on personal connections I have for in-kind offers.

All additional money raised will go into my newly formed production company, Falafel Entertainment, and will be used to to cover post-production expenses and festival submission fees for the film.

Directors Statement:

On February 19, 2017 I was involved in a horrific hit and run car accident which left me in a coma and in critical condition.  Doctors didn't know if I would survive.  I had heavy bleeding in my brain and ended up with a traumatic brain injury. Six weeks later, I would wake up from my coma in the hospital with no recollection of what happened to me or why I was there. It would take me months to piece together the puzzle and figure it out.

Putting two years of prior research to good use along with my own horrific personal experiences, I began writing in order to escape the harsh reality I was immersed in. What resulted was the story of JULIET.  It centers on a middle-aged woman who is struggling to deal with the aftermath of her husbands death as the one year anniversary approaches.

The character of Juliet is much like me at the time of writing this screenplay.  It is a redemption story about someone searching for meaning and purpose in their life.  Shortly after my car accident, a dear friend of mine committed suicide.  This is the same man who would call and visit me in the hospital frequently, offering me words of encouragement.  His suicide tore me to my core.  I began questioning the meaning of life and what happens when we depart this planet.  This was the second close friend of mine to commit suicide, the first being my best friend at the young age of seventeen.

In the months that followed, I felt depressed, alienated and alone. The only way I could sleep at night was the tranquility I received from mentally preparing for my suicide. Sensing my hopeless mood, my parents escaped with me to their summer house in Amman, Jordan for six months. It is there that I began searching for meaning and purpose in my life. What resulted was the story idea for JULIET.  We have all had hardships in our lives where we have felt alienated and alone -- feeling as though we have lost everything and have no purpose on this planet anymore.  My personal experiences (which are reflected through my protagonist Juliet) are a testament that everyone on this planet has a purpose, no matter how insignificant they think it may be.
