On August 13, 2017, we lost Mo Richard; the sweetest, kindest, most badass woman in the whole world.
Mo’s unique, vibrant and chill persona was enhanced by her deep love for her husband, family, friends and Jackalope Tattoo sisterhood. Her artistic talent in many mediums was second to none, and no one was surprised when she began to create her own tarot deck.
Following her shocking death from an aortic aneurysm, those who loved her began to slowly pick up the pieces of their lives. It became apparent that everyone shared a common goal. Complete Mo’s Tarot deck. Soon, a community of artists, friends and relatives began to form. This deck is a result of that collaboration. Using Mo’s original cards, her detailed notes for the deck, each artist created a card which honored Mo’s vision, while incorporating their own unique style.
We are deeply heartbroken that we will never hear her laugh again, or listen to another hysterical story, or learn a random nature fact, or share in the excitement over her most recent tattoo design, or listen to her nonchalant (but always spot on) observations about basic human rights; but with this tarot deck, with this project we honor the very essence of her spectacular being.
It is our hope that Mo fans both old and new, will delight in this creative, whimsical, well-thought out tarot card deck.
The multistabber Tarot is an animal themed deck with influences in its design from the Mythic Tarot as well as the standard Rider-Waite. The Major Arcana was completed by Mo Richard, and each animal was hand-picked to represent that card through its individual meaning or characteristics.
It was Mo's vision for the Minor Arcana to show the journey of the tarot through the life cycles of different animals. In the ace cards, you'll find each creature in its embryonic state. As each suit progresses, the animal grows, and finds its ultimate evolution in the court cards.
The suits are broken down by an animal representative of each element.
- Cups/Water: Fish
- Wands/Fire: Ravens/Birds
- Swords/Air: Luna Moth/Insects
- Pentacles/Earth: Squirrels/Rodentia
The tarot cards measure 2.75 inches by 4.75 inches, printed on blue-core standard card stock. The decks will be shrink wrapped and packaged in a matte tuck-box. Each deck is accompanied by a 4 inch by 7 inch softbound book explaining the meanings of the cards written by her husband Sam using her original notes and sources, a tutorial on how to use the tarot cards, and information on Mo's legacy foundation with Family Tree Clinic. The book also includes impressions from the collaborators who finished the deck, and how their image was inspired by the collection and Mo herself.
"I hope they serve tacos in Hell" t-shirt
Mo was a perfect mix of bright sunshine and dark humor. She had an amazing sense of style, and a wardrobe full of dark, ironic, and scathing T-shirts. Shortly after she passed, her husband Sam was handed that awful plastic hospital bag with her belongings. He realized the shirt the paramedics cut off in their attempt to save her life, read "I hope they serve taco's in Hell" in bold script. Mo's sense of humor was plain.
The multistabber t-shirt reward level will feature a light grey ink screen-printed on a 100% cotton premium ultra-soft black shirt created in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The Lost Deck
While sorting through some of Mo's artwork while looking for images to enhance this Project, Sam stumbled across the start of a deck created earlier in Mo's artistic career. We've estimated this art was drawn during college, right after she returned from an extended tour in Argentina. As we assume that she never intended for this deck to be fully produced, we are offering it as a limited edition "oracle deck."
The Lost Tarot Oracle will be printed at 2.25 inches by 3.5 inches and comes in its own hand-numbered tuck box, with accompanying z-fold booklet explaining the origins of the deck, and how to use an oracle deck.

The multistabber Tarot Team
The multistabber Herself: Mo Richard
Mo Richard lived with her husband Sam, their dog Nero, cat Romero, and tortoise Duna in south Minneapolis until her unexpected death on August 13, 2017. She deeply loved her family and friends, and she excelled working at Jackalope Tattoo with kindred spirits, talented contemporaries and progressive, kind, like-minded artists.
Mo had multifaceted talent in many different artistic mediums and was creatively minded from a very young age. She loved animals, nature, nurturing her garden, dissecting serial killer motives, and all things weird, creepy and spooky. Her passion for these interests are easily identified in the Major Arcana cards which she created for this deck.
Of course, this brief summary of what she did or liked will never come close to describing WHO she was, but we hope that you get to know her through her art and through this project.

Mo's Living Legacy: The Family Tree Clinic
Family Tree Clinic's mission is that each individual person is deserving of not only high-quality and affordable services, but also of affirming, individualized, and respectful care, no matter their income level. Mo was staunch supporter of Family Tree Clinic and she strongly believed in reproductive and sexual health care for all. Her legacy fund specifically covers the costs of hormones for trans patients, birth control, and STI treatment medications. This deck will be displayed and available for use at Family Tree Clinic in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Organization Team Lead: Kari Johnson
Kari Johnson is a creative, organizationally minded individual. With over 20 years of professional experience developing processes, documentation, training, tools and managing people for financial institutions; Kari fills her “free” time taking on various projects, event planning and organizational assistance for the people and causes she is passionate about. She is able to identify a plan of attack and works tirelessly to make things happen.
Kari is connected to the multistabber tarot project through her brother, Sam Richard. She feels incredibly fortunate that she was able to connect with Mo through Sam. Few people are as suitably matched as they were, and the devastation of losing her was felt 10-fold as Kari felt the loss for herself, for Sam, and the grief experienced by the rest of her family. Kari is honored to help drive this project across the finish line and is very happy to be engaged.

Tarot Deck and Book Printer: Print Ninja
In 2003, Russell Potterfield was a business owner with a problem. He was paying too much for his business printing needs, and the costs kept rising.
He discovered that printing in China was an affordable solution, and delivered the same high-quality printing as his U.S. printers. Skeptical at first, he started small, but over time his company did more and more of their printing in China. However, coordinating a project halfway around the world came with risks.
So in 2009, Russell and his family moved to Shenzhen, China and PrintNinja was born. The American team handles customer service and pre-press, while the Chinese team handles production and logistics. Together they maintain low prices while providing top quality printing and customer service.
PrintNinja has printed millions of comic books, children’s books, games, magazines, and catalogs for thousands of independent creators, self-publishers, and businesses. Their reputation is the best in the industry, and they work hard every day to uphold it.
Risks and challenges
This is our first tarot card deck printing. In any new adventure there are bound to be learning curves and challenges.
To minimize unexpected hiccups, we are using companies we already know and trust to deliver a quality product. We have added team members who are known for their organizational skills, business acumen, and punctuality. Although we have a lot of moving pieces, we have kept the amount of companies we are ordering from to a minimum, which makes for more reliable shipping dates.
The deck is entirely complete and ready to print the moment we reach our goal and receive the funds. We have chosen to go overseas for the production of this deck in order to keep costs reasonable and there is the potential for our shipment to be caught up in customs and global politics. Our current shipping estimate is based on expedited shipping, as well as allowing a two-week buffer for potential complications at customs.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
