Why are we here?
Hello, everyone: We are the R&B duo Bain (Davis Bain & Erick "Afrokeys" Anderson). We are here in hopes that you would like to be a part of releasing our 2nd studio album entitled Around the Sun. We are very happy with this body of work we have created and are excited to share it with you! Around The Sun will be released in January of 2019, but anyone who contributes to this Kickstarter will receive a digital download of the album before the release date!
Around The Sun is an album comprised of 9 songs ranging from uptempo, danceable, funky groove-based songs to downtempo, moody and melodic, acoustic flavored songs. It’s an exploration of emotion told through our unique style of R&B music. An album full of love, soul, and honesty. This album is a byproduct of a long lasting friendship and musical connection between myself (Davis) and Afrokeys. We have put our hearts and souls into this music over the past 4 years and we feel that it's the best representation, to date, of what we have accomplished together.
We are truly independent artists.
We create music free of label support, working out of home studios and self-financing all our album expenses. We released our debut album, Love In Blue, right here on Kickstarter and were backed primarily by friends and family. Since then, we have been blessed enough to be able to widen our audience and listenership through social media and a few awesome opportunities such as a Japan reissue of Love In Blue, TV/Film placements (The Gift, Mistresses) and a few glowing reviews by publications such as Wax Poetics saying this of our debut album "There is no choice but to surrender unconditionally to the dreamy sound world....like floating in the deep sea, like swimming over the clouds. It will be a masterpiece of the 2014 Quiet Storm."
Who helped make this album?
We were fortunate enough to be able to bring on a host of ultra-talented musicians to help us create this album. We definitely called upon our Minneapolis family and were even able to build new relationships with artists from NYC and Washington DC. Our latest single, "Summer" features legendary turntablist, DJ Rob Swift (The X-Ecutioners, Herbie Hancock) and luminary saxophonist, Walter Chancellor Jr. (Prince, Chaka Khan). The musicians pictured below are absolutely amazing at what they do and we are honored and humbled to be surrounded by such an illustrious group.
We have worked closely with mixing engineer, Joe Mabbott at The Hideaway Studios to get these songs sounding amazing! As he did with our first album, Joe took our recordings and added warm analog goodness and depth. Bruce Templeton of Microphonic Mastering lent his talents to the mastering of the album. Sonically and musically, we couldn't be happier with the outcome of this record!
What will the Kickstarter funds be used for?
Well, we're glad you asked! If this project is successfully funded we will be able to produce a run of physical copies (Limited Edition 180 Gram Vinyl and CDs). Also, we will be able to repay the debt we have accumulated along the way with the mixing, mastering, promotion, session musicians, and studio costs. This allows us to keep creating music, which is our goal! Along with raising our families, we feel that writing and producing music is what we were put on this earth to do. We have heard from many of our fans of the uplifting & healing powers they've experienced from listening to our music. We love that people are able to benefit from our art - it’s what makes it all worth it for us and lets us know that we are on the right path. We would like to keep those vibes flowing as often and as freely as possible. Supporting this project is a way to help us balance all of that and, hopefully, keep growing our listenership to the point that we can sustain our artistic endeavors.
It's all or nothing.
Thats right, we either reach our $12,000 goal or its a bust! (Meaning, you get your money back if the project isn't completely funded). CD's and Vinyl will not be produced if we are unable to meet our goal. With that being said, we see nothing but success coming from this. Our goal is realistic and we have some awesome rewards to offer our esteemed backers!
Risks and challenges
Thankfully, this isn't our first album or our first Kickstarter so we have a plan laid out and know how to deliver in a timely fashion. All of the creative work is already done and now our only risk is not getting fully funded. Without successful funding, this album will more than likely end up being solely a digital release. We know that many of our listeners prefer physical copies, so we'd love to make that happen for everyone!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
