About this project
My fondest memory when I was a kid was biting into a warm Banh Mi Vietnamese sandwich for the first time and tasting what bread is supposed to taste like. The next few bites put my taste buds on notice, expanding my palate to embrace the rich flavors. Since that moment, I have been on a mission to recreate the flavors of salty, sweet, vinegary and spicy all in the same sandwich. After some time tinkering in my kitchen with fresh ingredients placed onto a canvas of the warm and humble baguette, I'm absolutely excited to share my Banh Mi with you.
My name is Davis. I’m joined in this endeavor by my friends Stan and Esther Eunjin, who share with me both a deep affinity for Banh Mi and for food trucks, which are a major part of the food scene in Philadelphia. I am a culinary school graduate with a passion for preparing quality homemade sandwiches. Together, we are Baguette Philly, a food truck specializing in Banh Mi and offering a wide variety of bread-themed sandwiches, soups and desserts. Our dream is to bring this culinary tradition in food truck form to the city of Philadelphia this year.
Banh Mi is a delicious fusion sandwich combining elements of French and Vietnamese culinary specialties. Our sandwiches will be composed of the following ingredients: a French baguette, a variety of Vietnamese meats, pate, peppers, pickled carrots, cucumbers and daikon radishes. Baguette Philly will maintain the traditional flavors of authentic Banh Mi and at the same time introduce new variations (including a vegetarian option) to innovate our Banh Mi into a Philadelphia staple.
Where Your Money Goes.
In order to get our food truck on the street, we first need…well a food truck! The funds you contribute will go directly to the purchase and retrofitting of a food truck for us to sell our Banh Mi’s. We are offering some awesome rewards in this campaign as a way to thank you for your support! Please consider partnering with us in making Baguette Philly a reality and we'd like to invite you to try one of our Banh Mi's very soon!
Risks and challenges
Developing a following - We need supporters affectionately termed "baguette heads" to spread the word about Baguette Philly! We hope to keep our supporters updated on the latest happenings as our food truck prepares for launch and begins operations.
Choosing the right food truck - We're currently on a search for the right food truck that fits our needs. We'd like a food truck that matches our budget and also our expectations for a proper platform (size, condition, equipment) for preparing and selling our Banh Mi's.
Finding a location - Having a good location close to our customers is absolutely key. After doing plenty of research, we're in the process right now of filing for a spot in Philadelphia so that we can sell our Banh Mi's to our customer base.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We are currently in the process of filing for a location permit in the city. Although we can't guarantee where exactly we will be located, we hope to and intend to open up in the University City area close to Penn and Drexel. In the meantime, stay tuned and spread the word!
