How to Backpack With Your Parents is the true story about the journey that I took with my parents through the cities and countryside of Peru, culminating in a four-day hike on the Inca Trail through the Andes Mountains to the lost city of Machu Picchu.
Told with humor, suspense, and endearment, it's an incredible tale about how we come to appreciate the lessons of life and grow as individuals. It’s a tale about the unbreakable bond between parents and their children, and how we learn to love our family in new ways over time.
This is a great book for everyone. It’s a unique story. It’s filled with adventure. And it’s a quick and fun read.
Writing is my passion. It’s something that I have always enjoyed and pursued since I was a kid in Kansas City, Missouri. It started with a poem I wrote when I was six for my first-grade class about sledding and has continued ever since.
Today, I’m a professional writer and a researcher. How To Backpack With Your Parents is my first non-fiction book and it joins a portfolio of two novels and one screenplay, another novel and screenplay in progress, and plenty of research articles. This is my first attempt to release a book by tapping Kickstarter. I previously released my first novel "Observance" in 2016 and it is available in paperback and kindle versions on Amazon and at Barnes & Noble online.
I do this all in my spare time outside my day job whenever I can because I enjoy it and because I think I’m pretty good at it. I’ve been writing privately and professionally in a variety of styles for two-and-a-half decades and I’ve even picked up a masters and a PhD along the way to prove it. Your support will help me build a platform, which is something I can’t do on my own, and ensure the release of How to Backpack with Your Parents is a success.
Thanks for your help and support!
Risks and challenges
I’ve decided to release How to Backpack With Your Parents using a new approach. Through Kickstarter, I’m hoping to cut out the middlemen and give my book an independent platform.
Many of you may know that only a few major firms dominate the publishing world and that they won’t even consider a book unless it comes from somebody already famous. Yet, many of the most successful books of recent years were first independently published.
The key is pre-sales. Nearly all best-sellers and other successful books have their fate determined by the number of copies sold before the book is even officially released. Large publishers arrange large pre-sales with stores and other contacts, which boosts their books. Because of this, publishers want their authors to be household names (famous or infamous) to attract attention.
With your help, we can make my book a success all on its own. The money raised here will enable printing of my book while every individual donation of $15 or more will count as a at least one pre-sale order of How to Backpack with Your Parents. Smaller donations and extra funds will go directly to marketing and promotion expenses.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
