DANGERZONE is a head-to-head air combat game that combines Street Fighter II + Spacewar + Top Gun.
- The game features 7 unlockable characters, an interwoven story arc, a mysterious villain, and dozens of multi-button-mashing combos for single and multiplayer action.
- Invoking 16-bit / 1990 flashbacks using old-school gaming tropes & irony, the game aims to pack a retro punch.
- Developed for PC, OUYA & other Android + Controller microconsoles, DANGERZONE is set to recreate those late night play sessions from your childhood!
The year was 2026. After six weeks of escalating sorties the Battle Of Cannikin began - a final attempt by Union forces to avoid total defeat. “Alpha Wing”, lead by decorated General M. “Knight” Bosin engaged a superior Republic opponent.
At exactly 15:55 all contact was mysteriously lost … satellite reconnaissance confirmed the entire Republic fleet had vanished. Victory was claimed, unchallenged, by the Union and Alpha Wing returned to their Navy Carrier.
But Knight was not among them.
Now, in 2029, after three years apart, the fractured remnants of Alpha Wing meet again. Summoned aboard a Corporate Carrier by a mysterious Executive, their new mission: to demonstrate the Corporation’s deadly products in a high stakes tournament titled “DANGERZONE”.
The prize is an offer they cannot refuse - an explanation of what happened over Cannikin at 15:55.

Hello Kickstarters! We are a micro team of indie game developers with headquarters hidden in the trees of Vancouver Island (West Canada). For us the golden-era of gaming was the early 1990s: SNES, MegaDrive, cartridges, microswitch joysticks and button bashing combos! What better than a challenge amongst friends in the early hours of the morning for "best out of 3?" ... "best out of 5?" ... "best out of 7?" ...
DANGERZONE is our vision of a retro-inspired tournament fighter - built for today's modern, alternative, microconsoles. Tongue-in-cheek cliché comedy with ironic unoriginality! We are designing a NEW sub-genre: close quarter dogfighting similar to martial arts:
- Parrying / counter attacks
- Combos / special moves / supers
- Fast reaction combined with strategy & balance
- Power and control
But unlike many other awesome Kickstarter game projects we're not "nearly finished", we don't have a mostly-completed game to show, or a demo to release to the press for a Kickfinish. We are (at the time of launching this Kickstarter) at the 30% stage:

With our background in web games we are saddened by mobile freemium gaming on D-pad-less touchscreens, and instead want to support the retro-esque purity of OUYA and other Android + Controller microconsoles. We understand the importance of putting a game controller in players' hands, and how many genres of game absolutely require this. Existing OUYA owners are our perfect fit - it's a great box, but it risks obsolescence if used only to emulate arcade classics or mobile ports. We want to help but we can't afford to do this without your upfront support - please help us make something that's made to measure and unobstructed by IAP!

And great news is that this OUYA exclusivity period does not apply to desktop versions - so PC and Mac will be launched without delay! Other Android microconsole versions can follow soon afterwards.
PC represents our default target. However our primary target is OUYA and other Android + Controller microconsoles (e.g. GameStick, GamePop, Mojo, FireTV, all TBC). Mac versions are intended. We are a registered Nintendo Developer and are considering a Wii U build at a later stage. Steam is not a priority for this stage, as we are unsure whether PC demand will be sufficient to pursue Greenlight? Please let us know which targets are important to you!
Risks and challenges
Risks? Thank you for asking. We've been building commercial games for over ten years, often for clients with demanding deadlines and fixed budgets. It's been ace and taught us the importance of quality to the core, proper scheduling, iterative design, regular releases and many other development mind tricks and best practices including ... risk assessment! Specifically this project has the following risks: OUYA SDK integration development time, OUYA market submission issues, Android Controller integration, unreceived budget at design stage, 50% unreceived budget during beta development (OUYA's matched funds), OUYA's right to cancel their matched funds(!!!), not qualifying for OUYA's matched funds (<156 backers while still achieving >$15,550). Everything can be solved with time; we're an experienced, honest, hard working team and we'll keep backers in the loop at every stage.
Challenges? We love 'em - and the challenge on this game is to stretch ourselves, to go beyond our comfort zone and make an AMAZING game on a wide array of platforms. A big step of that challenge is this Kickstarter; a search for a supportive community.
