About this project
Kat Attack! Development blog
Hello! This is independent artist/gamedev Axel Shokk, thanks to Kickstarter I was able to bring TRIP to life!
Now I need your help bringing a more ambitious project to fruition, Kat Attack!
What is Kat Attack! ?
Kat Attack! is an action-oriented interactive comic set in a distant dystopian future about a guitar-beam-cannon wielding space pirate named Kat who battles ruthless mercenaries and mobsters as she searches for the legendary astroturf.
Kat made a promise to revive her now dead boyfriend Draco, determined to fulfill her promise she discovers that a magical root called the 'Astroturf' can revive him. Unfortunately this root is extremely rare and sought after in the intergalactic black market.
Kat will have to face off against thugs, mercenaries, bounty hunters, and even mob kingpins to get to the Astroturf, it seems like an impossible task but that only fuels Kat's ambition to accomplish it.
You won't be reading a linear story, your interactions in the game will affect which story arc you experience, there are three main story arcs and a plethora of side-quest content for you to explore!
In the worlds you explore you will be given the chance to interact with NPCs and other characters giving you more background information about the universe and its denizens.
When it's time for action, the game will switch to motion-comic and fluid animated cutscenes for a more engaging and viceral experience.
Optional quick time events during battles will pull you right into the action!
In addition Kat Attack! will feature:
- Loads of unlockable goodies
- Voiced dialogue
- Rad soundtrack
- Animated sequences
- Game-impacting moral choices
Kat Attack! strives to be a content-rich experience that will require several play-throughs in order to get the full experience.
Visual novels have the potential to bring the world of comic books, novels, animation, and a few video game elements together making it an extremely powerful storytelling tool. Unfortunately visual novels are still an untapped medium in the west. Supporting this project will help the medium break away from the stigma of simply being platforms for dating sims and will encourage other talented artists and storytellers to use this medium.
Your contribution will help fund:
- Production costs
- Recording devices
- New parts for existing equipment
- Hiring voice talent for character dialogue ( among those the talented Adam Riley whose work includes voices for Conker's Bad Fur Day )
- Hiring writers to help revision the story and dialogue
- And hiring python programmers to create all interactive segments of the game
Perhaps the best reason you should fund Kat Attack! is for the...
Kat Attack features plenty of excellent rewards ranging from digital goods, physical items and most exciting of all in-game integrations!
- Concept and promo art
- Wallpaper package
- Your original design in a poster or billboard in the game
- A picture of you drawn into a cameo character in the game
- Your original design or character to be made into a cameo character in-game
- A picture of you or your character to be made into an NPC in the game
- A picture of you or your character to be made into an NPC with dialogue!
*All submitted content will be transformed to fit the Kat Attack! style, but we will make sure it stays true to the original design. By submitting original content you grant us the right to use it in Kat Attack!
Risks and challenges
Kat Attack is a story pulled from a universe in the works since '07. With a doodle, Kat Attack was born. The locations, characters, and lore are concrete enough to warrant a content-rich experience with heaps of background info to pick at and digest. There are many characters that will make their appearance in KA and will have stories of their own!
This is the first story of this scale that we will be undertaking, however the team is confident and capable of writing a solid and entertaining story.
The amount of assets that Kat Attack! requires is quite large, but we see it as a challenge and an opportunity to test our drawing and creative skills.
The more difficult the task is, the more motivated we are to overcome it. This is our ethos.
