Bold Design: The case is screen-printed with bold black and white graphic art designed by Axel Pfaender, making the Berlin Boombox a real eye-catcher. It's a contemporary take on the design of oldschool boomboxes.
Build it Easily! The Berlin Boombox comes as a kit consisting of a die-cut cardboard structure, all electronic parts, and four AA batteries. Assembly is easy, tools-free and takes only a couple of minutes. No geek knowledge necessary.
Technology: Use the Berlin Boombox with your iPhone, iPod or any other MP3 player. Insert your device (where back in the days the tape used to go). Connect via 3,5 mm stereo jack which ensures that a wide range of devices can be used, not only iPhones or iPods.
Unlike most other cardboard speakers on the market this one features an integrated amplifier that provides stereo sound.
The BerlinBoombox is controlled with a single, beautiful, big aluminum knob for power/volume.
iPhone /iPod Touch users: To optimize the sound quality we have teamed up with Bongiovi Acoustics from NYC, who will develop a custom sound profile for the Berlin Boombox. This custom profile will be included in the free iOS app “Bongiovi DPS“ in a future app update. All audio played through the "Bongiovi DPS" app will be remastered in real time to use the full potential of the Berlin Boombox. For more details see Project Update #1.
Sustainable Design: The Berlin Boombox is made of partially recycled cardboard. All cardboard parts are fully recyclable. It also saves weight which means less energy is used for shipping.
The BerlinBoombox is made in Berlin. Except for the electronic parts, which are imported from asia, all design, screen-printing, cardboard production and packaging is done locally.

The story: This project combines my passions for music and graphic design. I had built the first cardboard boombox for my personal use a couple of years ago. After the overwhelming feedback that I received from everyone who had seen it, I decided to go for it and turn it in to a real product.
You can follow the development here: blog.berlinboombox.com
So, what's the plan? The BerlinBoombox project is now at a point where I have a great looking and working prototype, but I need your help to get it ready for production. This involves final tweaks on the cardboard construction; development of a flat cardboard packaging that keeps all the components save with as little foam or plastic as possible; production of the die-cut tools (which are quite expensive); getting the required regulatory licenses (FCC, CE); and the funds to place the first production order.
Thank you so much for your time and for checking this out!
Let's make the Berlin Boombox a reality.
