About

Axe Age

Discover a world where secrets are shrouded in the darkness that blackens the night, where the failure of mankind has created the un-dead, where the edge is right now, and where the battles are glorious!  Welcome to Axe Age.

Axe Age is a 28mm Fantasy Folklore skirmish game created specifically to allow players to use any 28mm mini.  As a tabletop mini's player I got sick and tired of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on miniatures and then only being able to use those specific mini's in their specified armies and then finding out there was a game revision and those expensive minis were no longer useful.  Axe age allows you to use what you already have and mix and match those mini's to fit your perfect army.

Meet the Tribes

Axe Age is a rich environment where the world in which you play is full of characters.  The characters and the tribes they come from have deep RPG lives in which you can pull from to create your perfect army.  The world in which this game plays is a world onto itself; it is a world of mystery, a world of warriors and times past.  The world is rich with a history of its own where sorrow, joy, and fear mix together to create scenarios in which you, and you alone, must conquer.  Below are a few of the tribes in Axe Age.  As we continue this project we will add more as requested.

Hobyah

In the deepest darkest recesses of your mind, try to think of the dark but be careful, because in those dark recesses you will find them.  When you close your eyes and the darkness begins to swirl, when you can feel the clutch of panic, when you know you are doomed, this is where they live.  The Northern lands have been destroyed leaving enormous caverns and hidden craigs exposed amongst the lands.  It is in all the dark shadow covered places of the land where the Hobyah exist.  These creatures are not human, they made the mistake of helping the humans once, but they are viciously smart about it now.  They use the shadows to move amongst men as they travel, ever watching, and quick to destroy.  They hold secrets from times past where magic flowed from the land and Fomorians and Gorbachind feasted as friends and allies.  Those days are gone and with them the Hobyah's empathy.

The Hobyah hold secrets that men pay dearly for.  They are hunted for these secrets but the hunters must be wary for they too become the hunted.  The weapons the Hobyah make are known far and wide for their superior strength and endurance.  The Hobyah hold the knowledge of mechanism, machines, and curiosities from the time before the collapse.  Go find them in the darkness if you dare and fight them, drag them out of their crevases, peer into their souls, plunder their knowledge if you dare, or hire them into your own armies.  But be wary, for if you are not successful, you will be one of many who are forgotten on the battlefield, another carcass left mutilated by the Hobyah.

Kurging

Erigath had long known that he would some day grown to stand in the steps of his father.  His father stood in his father's steps and he so was to fulfill his obligation to the clan. It was his responsibility to lead the men to the most profitable tribes down the river, to re-enact and re-take the repetitive battles he felt he had been fighting all his life.  He had on many occasion seen the same faces he battled during a raid attacking his holdings in the night.

The fighting and pillaging amongst the Kurging was repetitive.  As each tribe would set off down the river during the summer months to find new lands and retrieve gold and finery from lands abroad, why not stop at neighboring villages along the way to get a snack.  It was easier that trying to figure out how to pack food. Plus, there were always new spouse to steal and demand entertainment from on those cold nights.

Erigath did not want to loot and pillage up and down the river any more.  Erigath wanted to explore, on foot, the lands inward of their village.  The townspeople laughed at Erigath. Silly Erigath, who travels on foot?

It was one very normal looting summer when Erigath changed his tune.  His father had just led them, once again for what Erigath imagined must be the 7th time in his life, to a nearby tribe to rape and pillage.  As they emerged from the tree line, covered in paint, flinging fire into the village, Erigath saw a light.

The light shone in the brilliance of the huts on fire.  As blood, spit, and ash fell upon Erigath's battle worn face he saw her.  She was beautiful.  To Erigath he thought he had been stabbed and was possibly bleeding out and dying; how could such beauty and majesty come to him here, in this place he pillaged?

He slowly found his wits, raised his battle axe, and ran towards the beauty.  With one silken move he grabbed the beauty around the waist, hoisted her onto his shoulder, and pushed past an older male villager pathetically holding a herding staff.  Erigath did not bother with the fun of the pillage, he did not set fires as he darted back to the boat, he did not steal from his predictable huts, he clutched his prize and was the first back to the river.

Erigath used his twine to bound his prize and looked dreamily at his new soon-to-be-bride.  She was dressed in her finest tribal clothing, her face was painted in her beliefs.  As he came to his senses he realized not only did he find the best bride, but that she was already adorned in her wedding attire, covered in her sacred symbols, and apparently ready for the alter.  What luck Erigath realized, now, not only did he have a bride, but he did not have to wait to return to his village!

Do you dare raise your own army or warband to bring back your people?  It is up to you to decide and it is your fate that lay in that river bed where generations of men lie.

Risks and challenges

If the project is successfully funded and we are able to print out copies of the book we may run into difficulty finding stores to sell the book. We have plans to begin distribution locally and then expand as sales permit. This could potentially cause an issue in our ability to distribute effectively.
