We didn’t choose this script on a whim. There’s a history with this particular show. Co-founder Erin O’Shea played Janet in Rocky for the first time in 2009. She was also a part of the remount in 2010. Erin, the director (Christopher Weise), and some other cast members realized that there was something really special about their ensemble. They loved the way everyone worked together on and off stage. There was a beautiful, organic chemistry within the group. This kind of chemistry is hard to find. Shows and casts come and go, but it’s a truly special thing when you find a group that meshes as well as this Rocky ensemble. After Awkward Pause was founded and had finished its second production, Erin and Chris started discussing ways that they could make Rocky Horror happen again in 2012. They felt it was a pity to let such a strong ensemble disband. They also thought that Awkward Pause might be the perfect company to produce The Rocky Horror Show in a completely revamped production with members from the same magical ensemble. The slate is clean, and the production staff has some amazing ideas in the works.
This production of Rocky is a collaboration between Awkward Pause Theatre and a handful of members from the original Rocky Horror ensemble from 2009 and the excitement is palpable! Everyone is thrilled to work together to create something new and fresh - using the same magic that has kept them coming back to each other since the beginning. Awkward Pause has the cast, the rights, and now a performance space. The show will be performed at Mayne Stage (1328 W. Morse Ave, Chicago) in October of 2012! APT is moving full-steam ahead. However, we need a little financial assistance to ensure this project reaches its full potential. Specifically, the Kickstarter money will go toward our costumes, set design, props, goodie bags for performances, and paying for any additional fees (making sure we can cover the rights and the space rental). We have full faith in this project, and we can’t wait for the people of Chicago to see our show. We really do have an amazing ensemble, director, choreographer, performance space, performance schedule (Halloween 2012!), and vision for this show. Please help us "do the Time Warp again!"
Special Thanks to Ward Crockett for his fantastic work making our crazy video and putting up with our awkwardness!
