Development update #8

Hey guys!

Firs of all - we would like to apologize for the week delay from our usual 2-3 weeks updates. It was mixture of really heated time (we are preparing final files for print!) and holidays season.

Most of it is back on its own course and we have a lot to show today - but you can expect a new update next week with pre-final components for you to proof-read one more time, before giving them to final print!

Here is what we will talk about today:

  • Plastic first shots of some of the models
  • Event cards get unique arts!
  • Comic book teaser
  • Plastic tokens
  • Production timeline

Lets start!

First plastic shots

Ok, so we got first shots of some of the models - rest will follow up this week. They were still on PVC bases, as there are some problems with ABS bases, that we are trying to currently solve (bases texture is too deep apparently to be done in hard plastic). We are actively searching for solutions on this front!

Generally we are very pleased with the quality of the models, but two of the heroes (Pilot and Mechanic) will require small adjustment due to position problem and some gaps.

We have already passed on comments and we should see results of adjustments soon!

Here are the pictures!

And those are the models we will be correcting:

 Event cards get unique arts!

We decided to add one more treat that we hope you guys will enjoy - we have added to the game 18 unique arts for the Events. We are really proud of our 2D artists and we hope that Nemesis will be one of the best looking games around!

Here are some examples of Event cards art

Comic book teaser

We are also doing everything we can, to include short Stretch Goal comic book together with the game and boy, we think that it looks pretty amazing!

We dont want to spoil to much, but here is a small teaser of how it is turning out ;)

 Plastic tokens

Plastic tokens are also in production and soon we should see first plastic shots of them.

Here are some renders you can see of their final shape!

From left: Fire token (transparent orange), Noise token (transparent yellow), Damage token (metallic silver)

Production time-line

So far production timeline is looking rather good if we will manage to finish all the files by the end of this month - whole team is really focused around it, so there are high chances for that.

Currently we have accounted delay of around 3-4 weeks due to ABS bases. We hope that there will be no unexpected new events, but unfortunately there as always there is a possibility for those. We will keep you up to date with all the news!

Ok guys! Expect new update next week and we will hope for your feedback, to make sure we will get all the little mistakes that could slip in!

The noise token looks like a depressed spider hanging. I think the line in the ! should me more straight and les diamond shaped maybe?

      - I can only see this now, and it is better that way!

    2. Kaladin on

@Radioland haha! Now all I can see is the spider symbol :P

I think the gear is good. I think something so small would have a hard time breaking when handled normally. It looks very robust based on the render.

I'm really looking forward to the full Comic book, and see how it contributes to the story and to the gameplay. It's my favorite add-on.

nice developments. I like the art of the event cards.
      Thanks for sharing !

      Only two comment:
      - the gear is so damaged that it almost does not look like a gear anymore. Since it is now a kind of open ring, will it be weaker/ more prone to breaking ?
      - the noise token icon is not immediately legible as "noise" (at least to me). Maybe it depends on the vieving angle, I don' t know. Would another icon be better? Maybe just the sound waves without the exclamation mark?

Setting aside quality issues for a while
The scientist pose looks pretty natural for recent developments in rising wheelchairs to assist users in using unadapted workstations etc. Most use a harness to keep the user from faling out. Wife uses an electric wheelchair that reclines (the opposite) to take some pressure off her lower spine and is looking forward to these developments becoming more widely available. They are out there though.
The 2 wheel mode with the rear stabilising wheel raised would be gyro stabilised and great when moving quickly and for a true zero turning circle. The rear articulated wheel can be dropped when at rest, or to conserve power, or when moving more slowly over difficult ground.
I'd honestly say the chair and the pose are really well imagined for the not so distant future.

    10. AR_Jordan Collaborator on

So the bases, remember, they will not be PVC. They will be ABS - a hard plastic that does not bend. So there is no need to worry about bent PVC bases. : ) It is the same kind of bases used for The Edge Dawnfall, where it was also important that the base was not bendy.

I'd like a ballpark estimate of delivery. I'm guessing we're probably not getting it this year, correct? Early 2019?

      - It is estimated to begin in October 2018 : )

    12. Felix on

@Phil i honestly think that the bend over scientist is the only thing i dont like about the mini, it looks like he is falling out of his chair :( maybe it realy is a mistake and the back wheel should touch the ground. But except for this i realy love the mini <3

    13. Felix on

ooh and yes i would love some more detailed high res fotos as well, just like a lot of you guys :) That all said, i kinda understand why some people might not be saisfied, but i think it is nagging on a highh level. And a lot of people put a lot of money in this so of course they want the best possible outcome :)

    14. Felix on

@Andy Wise Yes and no :D The soldier, scientist and the crawler alien (dont know right now how it is c alled) look great i would love to paint them right away (considering that the bases get changed, they dont look good now, but we all know that they are not finale). From a point of detail i love the pilot and mechanic, but i agree with the weirdeness in pose and headsize, but i hope that will change as AR stated.

The thing is, that i made a lot of quick photos back in the days to show some friends and the detail was extremly lowered on the pics. in real life they where much better. and those pictures here look exactly like that. but i am allready satisfied with the detail, so considering that in real live there will be more details, that satisfies me even more :D

And when renders of the models are shown, you can never expect those kind of details!!! maybe with resin, but we all knew it would be pvc. So maybe i just had other expectations for the outcome of those minis as some other people, because i know how the difference between the 3D render and the final miniatures will be. (or might be)

I have trouble to explain what i mean, i hope you understand :D Not a native english guy ;D

The base warping must be fixed, I'm not worrying that it won't be. I am concerned that if more material needs to be added to the bases it'll be done to the same clumsy, lame standard.
My main worries are that the detail level the mouldings hold is so poor. I do understand that a lot of folks who think they're competent still produce really poor pics of minis.
Taking good pics of models is a technical exercise in lighting and setting up the camera. You usually can't rely on the processor doing the job you need. There are a number of guides out there that if followed carefully, will help you improve your pictures beyond what you're assuming is possible. Just go look and see which make sense to you, which works to improve things for you.
These pics are certainly not taken by someone with that skill, they're snaps that aren't set up at all. But that doesn't mean they can't be used to study the models. They are in clear focus and they show a very poor level of detail being held by the mouldings.
Just compare them with the renders we were shown.
There just isn't a straight, clear edge on any of that soldier's equiptment.
Forget the pilot and mechanic, they'll be fixed to the point where on release they're no longer an iconic renowned fail
The scientist was my favourite mini of all, I think the rear wheel is meant to be up and is used for balance, when powered down, and for emergencies. It's ok as the lines don't show up the lack of sharpness

@felix - I'm loving both your optimism and your politeness - I really hope that your hopes turn out to be well founded.

As you seem to have a pretty positive outlook on things can I ask you (entirely sincerely); if you received the minis as they look in the photos would you be happy?

If so - that's cool; one satisfied customer.

    18. Sascha on

      Thanks for the update.

    19. Felix on

@Phil I just wish that some people would relax and wait a bit before yelling at the screen, that is all, but thats just internet mentality i guess :) I bet there will be some real good photo examples of the minis soon, Maybe some painted ones too :)

@Phil Not everything was adressed to you, but if you feel like it was, i am sorry.

      Andy Wise on

      @phil

I'm getting a sinking feeling about this. My concerns are very much in line with yours.

I'd sooner see a 6 month delay in getting the minis and get them right than them feeling they have to put up with sub par product from their suppliers and getting them sooner.

I can't imagine for a second that they're looking at those pictures and thinking that they're of the quality they set out to produce.

    22. Missing avatar

      Phil on

I read what they're writing, that's what is the cause for concern

"Generally we are very pleased with the quality of the models, but two of the heroes (Pilot and Mechanic) will require small adjustment"

"it is imposible to tell the real details from those anpainted minis. They will look so much better when you hold them in your hands"

It's too damn late at that point

"I realy dont get some people her Oo The details on the soldier and scientist are great. I dont know what you are looking at, maybe clean your screen from time to time"

Your statement makes no sense to me because I've looked at the pictures, once anyone has done so your comments are pointless

Disagree without being facetious and pretending you meant to be funny by adding an emoji

    23. Felix on

@Phil you are a real naysayer arent you :DDD

      @psychicblue
Look again at the pictures, both the wallpaper and it's reflection in the glass shelf is pin sharp, there was good focus and plenty of depth of field, the apparent blurring you see is the detail level of the figures themselves, it's the actual production quality rather than that promised.
In response AR are "Generally we are very pleased with the quality of the models, but two of the heroes (Pilot and Mechanic) will require small adjustment"

We're being set up for the promise of the renders being nothing like what we'll get. AR were as devoted to this project as we are, now they're going to pretend these are the awesome they were expecting. Only reason to be pretending this is project fatigue and having given up. The 2 they talk of fixing are grossly defective, as are the bases, they have to fix them or be an industry laughing stock. It very much looks like they are drawing the line at fixing those and otherwise what you see is what we'll get and they'll express their satisfaction at how brilliantly it all turned out....

    29. Missing avatar

      Andy Wise on

Following up on my earlier, rather brief note about the quality of the figures. They really don't look right to me. The edges aren't sharp enough, the flat surfaces don't look smooth enough and there seems to be some weird stuff going on with limb proportion (particularly head size and the arm on the scout across her chest). Folds in cloth seem too deep / sharp.

It may be down, to some extent, to the quality of the photography but really if they don't have good quality shots they shouldn't share them. It could be that these are works in progress and the finished figures will be much better but more should be made of this to reassure us if that is the case.

Comparing these shots to the original concepts there's a world of difference. I hope that we see a marked improvement by the time these actually get finalised...

Figures dont look so great! Detail is a little "soft" and the figure with shrukken head does not look good. I hope you can work it out.

The rest of the stuff looks fantastic. Am happy to wait a few months for the game when delays mean a better looking and playing product.

Thank you for this update and for all your work and for your saintly patience with excited and eager backers :) Sharply focused shots of the minis would be cool, those are kinda blurry. About the art - amazing work! In that first picture I can actually hear the bulkhead moaning and creaking. Overall every piece is unique but has a connected feeling.

    32. Felix on

I think the details on the minis are awesome, especially for PVC. It is just hard to see on unpainted minis with normal lighting and a bit lowres quality photos.

Minis do look pretty rough, and it does worry me that they say, " Generally we are very pleased with the quality of the models."

However, I'm sure most of the issues we are all worried about will be hammered out by the time they reach production.

Awesome update! Thanks so much! My question is, if I paid extra for split shipments in order to get the base in September instead of the whole thing in April, but production issues push the launch and delivery back, will I be reimbursed for the lost time?

      - No, but you could always get a refund on the project if you wanted.
