Welcome, and thanks for checking out the mibo! We are excited to be here with our first project. Did you want to have your own digital microscope? Just for curiousity about details of world around you. If you so we believe you are going to love mibo. mibo turns almost any cell phone to digital microscope. You can take and send microscopic pictures and videos with your phone. And with mibo application you can have all ability of a full featured, expensive digital microscope. It's easy to set up and packs down a box to easily fit into your bag or brief case.
You can capture microscopic images and videos easily with mibo. mibo allows anybody with a smartphone to easily take microphotography images. Once you start microphotography, you will be stunned wtih detail of the world. Here some images taken with mibo
How to use mibo?
It works with almost any Cell Phone or Tablet. Using the mibo is easy. Just take the parts of mibo from its box . Assemble mibo in 10 seconds. Put your phone on the marked place of mibo's top platfom. Launch mibo app or your phone's camera app. That's all. Now you can start to explore micro world.
mibo can be set up and packed down in seconds.
You can choose mibo or mibo Plus kits. Here is the features of all mibos:

We decided to develop our video and imaging application for mibo so you can use mibo with high efficiency. Ordinary video and image capture application of cell phones can't zoom during video capture process. And there are some other cons like this. Thanks to open source OpenCV library we have developed a powerfull video and image application for iOS.

Also we are working to port some basic features of open source CellProfiler (http://www.cellprofiler.org) software .
mibo application will be open source and publish from Github when development complete.
We have stretch goals like about mibo application for android, acrylic molded mibo body and more portable design.
$7500 — mibo Android App. We plan to provide complete functional app for Android phone and tablet holders if this goal is achieved..
$10K — More portable design and acrylic molded body. We plan to redesign body and acrylic molded production for more portable, stylish mibo if this goal is achieved.
What we do and why we do it
With mibo you can give inspire to kids and kid hearted adult explorers.
Designing and building mibo is a necessity for us. One of us (Ahmet Vural) working as a teacher in a public vocational high school (GTO Vocational High School - Gaziantep ). He needs 20+ microscopes for their science class with underfunded budget. So that's how we started to design mibo. One of our major aim is making home science more accessible. mibo is designed for providing an alternative option to expensive microscopes. mibo is a better option for science classes in low budget public schools. mibo will allow people to rediscover the world around them.
In the begining of 2013's last semester we need 20+ microscopes for Ahmet's class at high school. But our school did not have budget for this kind of expense. So we searched the net for low cost, DIY microscope options. We tried a lot of designs including webcam conversions, DVD Player lens, etc. But none of these satisfied us for using at classroom.
After a lot of try and hard work, we found a usefull instructable on instructables.com by Kenji Yoshino. We tried his design but his lenses from laser pointer did not work for us as we want either. Then, with inspire from Yoshinok, we decided design our own digital microscope conversion kit for mobile phones.

Still we needed high quality lenses for our design. We searched net again. We ordered some high transparent acrylic lenses from China over Aliexpress web site.
And we redesigned mibo's body and cut from plexiglass sheets with laser cutter at İstanbul Maket's workshop.
Like Yoshinok said, All we want is giving you the freedom to explore.
Production Plan and Timeline
We have a handful of working prototypes of mibo and a nearly finished iOS application, which we continue to test internally. These prototypes have been made with the manufacturing process in mind so we are confident we can turn them into amazing, final products.
We will use two hubs for shipments if our project funded. We will send mibos to US backers from Atlanta, our second home and we will send mibos to international backers from Istanbul . We have good deal with a company in Istanbul. With this way we keep shipment cost as low as we can.
What we will use the money for
We are asking for your support of $6000. The 6k will be used to finish the design for manufacturability, packaging design, ordering lenses, LED strips, coin batteries and plexiglass sheets and help us set up and contact distribution channels.
AVI Labs are team of designers, developers and coders.
AVI Labs began life in Gaziantep / Turkey as a mobile software development studio (Fabrikapps - http://www.fabrikapps.com) for distrubiting applications and games coded by Ahmet Vural and his students at vocational high school computer science section.
Ahmet Vural is still working as vocational teacher in GTO Vocational High School and freelance software developer. Last year Fabrikapps comes a new form collabration with Şahin Aslan and his company İstanbul Maket, a 3D Architectural Model Company and named AVI Labs as a partner of İstanbul Maket. Together we create 3D Architectural models, design prototypes and automotion system including remote home control systems.

Risks and challenges
mibo is a project involving software and hardware. And as we know most of the successful Kickstarter projects shipped late. We don't want to ship our product late. So we are working hard.
We've spent the last month working on mibo's plexiglass body production process. As soon as the project reaches the funding goal, we will order lenses, plexiglass sheets for body parts and begin manufacturing mibo's body parts in İstanbul Maket's workshop.
The design of mibo's body is still being finalized before the making final mibo. Although minor changes has to do with body components and design for manufacturability, there is always the chance that this can slightly change the look of the product. And if we reached 10K stretch goal, we will redesign mibo's body for making mibo more portable and acrylic molding.
We have nearly finished the development of mibo application for iOS (iPhone, iPad), however it is not fully tested and ready for deployment. mibo app for Android is still under development. If stretch goal achieved we will outsource mibo android app for fast deployment. We are working hard to make the development of the applications.
The biggest risk is if this project doesn't get funded. Please help spread the word about the mibo!
