Liber - Perfect multitools for book lovers, geeks and makers
Liber Multitools, perfect steel and titanium multitools for book lovers, geeks and makers
We are here to introduce the first two members of Liber Multitools, The Warp and The Hook. You most probably want to get to know what Liber Multitools is. Liber Multitools is a design project that includes steel and titanium multitools, gadgets, brass desktop orerry toys designed for book lovers, geeks, and makers, designed by a book lover, geek, and maker. The Warp and The Hook are facilitating, useful and practical tools that can be used for various purposes. And everyone will find useful, innovative and attractive gadgets and tools in these designs. And finding these tools alluring, everybody wants to own one of them.
You can find the story of Liber Multitools and its reddit adventure below, under "the story of liber" title on the campaign page. But now, we want to present the first two tools completed within the scope of this design project. Liber Multitools designs, The Warp and The Hook are mostly related to facilitating the reading experiences. The main design concept of these two tools comes from the thumb ring/page holder idea. A thumb ring/page holder reduces wrist strain while holding or opening a paperback book with your thumb.
The Warp is a new one-piece steel multitool that will change the way you look at, and use, multitools. Its a page holder when reading a paperback book, bit driver when you working on a PCB, wrench, ruler and many more. Every book helps you unlock a doorway into a new world like warp engine. So, the name comes from the warp engine.
And The Hook is a grade 5 titanium belt/bag/pocket hook, keychain, page holder and bit driver from Neverland.
We are sure that you will love these two tools.
The Warp is a solid chunk of Stainless Steel, Bead Blasted multitool featuring many tool functions that each provide multiple uses. The Warp's compact design allows it to be the best companion for your every day carry.
You can use The Warp as a thumb ring/ page holder when reading your books. The Warp's page holder reduces wrist strain when holding open a paperback book with your thumb.
The foremost concept of both The Warp and The Hook comes from page holding. The main idea was "Can we design a multifunctional gadget instead of wood or 3d printed thumb ring/page holder?"
The Warp is equipped with two standard ¼ inch hex housing nest that will fit any desired bit. The main one in on the tip of the tool and another pocket is on the one of the tool's side surface. The Warp allows the user to apply high force while rotating the bit.
The Warp features closed wrench where it has combined both Metric and Imperial sizes into one. The Imperial side fits 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, and 3/8 inch hex sizes. The Metric side fits M6, M5, M4, M3.5, and M2 hex sizes
The Warp is equipped with a protractor, a 1-inch imperial ruler, and a 3-centimeter metric ruler. Also, you can use the Warp for your simple drawing tasks.
Every The Warp multitool comes with German made ( ROITHNER LASERTECHNIK ) microlens. You can place microlens into tool's lens nest and you can use your Warp as a powerful magnifier / microlens with your smartphone.
The Warp is equipped with a bottle opener and standard ¼ inch open wrench. You know bottle opener is a must-have feature in any multitool.
Can opener, lid popper, wire stripper... The Warp can do more
The Hook is a Titanium, Bead Blasted page holder, bit driver, and key hook EDC, for your pocket, belts, belt loop, purse, messenger bag, or pretty much anything you want to hook your keys on to.
We made handcrafted special wooden boxes for Kickstarter backers. Kickstarter backers receive their tools in a wooden box, not in a carton box. And at the same time, every tool comes with a velvet pouch.
Hi again, let me start by introducing myself. I am Ahmet Vural, one of the founders of Chagan technology (formerly AVI Labs). I have been working for the Ministry of National Education for more than 14 years and I have been working with a great effort to educate both children and young people. I teach basic electronics, programming languages and coding. I wrote and published books on programming resources. Now, I am 39 years old and I have two kids but I want to admit that I still love comics, anime, video games, interesting gadgets and books especially sci-fi. I think that makes me some kind of nerd and geek.
And at the same time, I try to design innovative gadgets in our small design studio. I love designing and making something innovative. I am an active member of makers community in my city.
I've always loved reading books and dreaming. I remember having spent hours daydreaming with a paper ship model under a blanket after reading Jules Verne's novel "Two Years’ Vacation" for the first time when I was a little kid.
For this reason, the idea of Liber Multitools comes from my desire for reading. I was using wood or 3d printed ABS thumb rings/page holders while I was reading.
I started thinking to design something new on a page holder, a multifunctional tool for me: a maker, a book lover and a geek. I started to design and created posts on EDC and Multitools subreddit at reddit to share the idea. To be honest, I was afraid of negative comments and reactions but on the contrary, I got some nice suggestions and support. I refined the designs with the aid of fellow redditers. The main idea of reading multitools transformed into a design project to create tools, toys, and gadgets for us after two months from the start.
After a couple months, I designed two multitools, a fancy magnifier, a desktop orrery toy, a titanium letter opener and a carabiner in the scope of Liber Multitools project. You can follow Liber tools' adventure from Liber Multitools Web. I am spending most of my free time to finish "Sol" nowadays. "Sol" is a kinetic desk toy with a lot of gears inside, also it is an orrery to simulating our solar system.
First of all, I finished the design of The Warp and The Hook. Multitools prototypes have been manufactured with DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering) and I have tested it with my friends and testers from reddit users.
Now I want to make these products known by a large number of people. The Hook is manufactured with CNC. We have access to a CNC parkour. So there is no problem with the manufacturing of Hooks. But The Warp needs Metal Injection Molding for mass production and we need your help with molding costs and minimum order quantities.
We will choose the next designs to manufacture from the Liber Toolls with a survey after delivering The Warps and The Hooks.
Chagan Technology ( formerly AVI Labs ) is a small design studio, software, and hardware development company. We are a bunch of talented designers, coders, and engineers from Atlanta, Gaziantep and Palo Alto. I am Ahmet Vural and I am the co-founder of Chagan Technology. I have all the support from my teammates though Liber Multitools is my personal project.
Chagan Technology founded as "Fabrikapps" at 2009 by me, a Computer Sciences teacher from Gaziantep for developing mobile applications and games with my students from Nizip/GTO Vocational High School Computer Sciences section. Me, Ahmet Vural and my students designed, developed and published a lot of mobile applications. Also, we completed a successful non-profit Kickstarter project for educational purposes under the brand of AVILabs.
I am the lead designer/creator of Liber Multitools, Kadir, and Matt ( they tested prototypes ), Naime ( My dear wife created websites and graphics, UX )
All our designs belong to us and protected by patents.
Risks and challenges
We have some great experiences from our previous successful campaigns, now our team knows how hard to take a product all the way through the complete development cycle. Our past experiences has gave us an insight of what to expect and how to properly deal with them which will play role in this project. We'll apply our previous experiences to minimize the risks.
The prototype in the pictures and videos was created with DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering), in other words, 3D printing metal.
The Warps will be manufactured with Metal Injection Molding. We have great partners and connections in Turkey and China for this operation due to our previous projects. But molding process needs minimum order quantity and molding costs. So we need your help.
The Hook will be manufactured with CNC Machines. We already prepared for mass production of The Hooks. We are not expecting any problems with manufacturing.
Please help spread the word about The Warp and The Hook through your various social media platforms.
