Shifting Release Dates
I just wanted to let you know about where Dream Askew / Dream Apart is at. I had initially expected a September PDF release and November book release, but things have progressed a little more slowly.
A big part of the slowness comes down to my personal life (it's me, Avery). Since the Kickstarter wrapped, I relocated cities twice with my family, settled into a new home, learned to drive, got a new dog, and supported my partner in starting a new job. It's been a big of a whirlwind here! But things have still managed to move forward really beautifully, and I'm proud of the team we have working on this project.
Here's where everything is at: the book is finished editing, and has been laid out. Zev has provided preliminary sketches for all four of their interior art pieces, and is working on the final versions. With the book laid out, I turned everything over to our spot illustrator Ezra, and said "wherever you find blank space or feel inspired, please, grace those pages with your art." Ezra getting to work within the actual spreads is a really cool opportunity, and I'm excited to see how it turns out. In the meantime, I am tasked with developing the index, doing the final cover layout, and bringing together The Outliers zine.
Here's our current estimated timeline:
The PDF should arrive late November.
The book should ship out in late December.
I wanted to leave you with two small glimpses. The first is a spread from the book, giving you a sense of its visual identity. It's marked in blue, meaning its from one of the shared chapters of the book (chapters are colour-coded).
And the second is a sigil, by Ezra. Ezra has already created two sigils for this project - one for Dream Askew, and the other for Dream Apart. This final one is for Belonging Outside Belonging, the structure and worldview that underlies both games. It's used to open the chapter on how to play these games, as well as the chapter on how to design your own.
