About this project
Ziggy is a project that is very close to my heart. For a few years now, I have been designing and producing products through my design consultancy Autumn and my brand UNDER.
All of these products have been made in small batches and sold at a price that reflected that. I wanted to create a new product for the home that was inexpensive and multi-functional.
Ziggy is that product.
The reason I am coming to you through Kickstarter is to be able to produce enough volume of the hook to make it cost effective for anyone to buy. I am a big believer in the idea that design should be democratic and accessible.
Design should be beautiful and affordable. What's the point of good design if only a few people get the chance to experience it?
Ziggy is made from folded steel, with a powder-coat finish. It's designed to be super strong by itself and to allow for multiples to be used together to create a short or long run coat rack. They can be arranged in straight lines or in crazy patterns. Ziggys can even be offset to get twice the hooks into tight spaces!
Ziggy lets you hook things through it, hang things on it and even rest small objects on top. Ziggy is great in any room of your house and lets you add a touch of design to the smallest of spaces.
Each Ziggy hook is mounted with 4 screws, so it can take almost anything you can hang on it!
Ziggy is powdercoated to soften the edges and provide a durable, hard wearing finish. This will help to protect knits and delicate fabrics.
Ziggy is very easy to install. Each one comes with a template that lets you accurately mark out the screw positions and line up multiple hooks for a perfect unique pattern!
Risks and challenges
The challenges involved in the project are fairly minimal, but as with any production there are other people involved at certain stages.
Stage 1: Production
There is only a single component so production should be straightforward. The only area where things can go wrong at this stage are related to the quality of the finished product.
To avoid these problems, the factory we are using for production has been vetted by an agent who I have worked with before and who I trust.
We will also be receiving samples before final production to assess and make changes if required.
Stage 2. Shipping from the factory to Australia
again, this is a fairly low risk area. To try and avoid anything going wrong here, we are using a shipping service that has come recommended by a trusted colleague and friend.
Stage 3. Packing and shipping to backers.
This is a very low risk part of the process. I will be supervising this stage personally!
I have built a little extra time into the process, just in case anything is delayed. So, if everything goes to plan, your Ziggy's will be swinging your way a little early!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Each Ziggy comes with 4 mounting screws, but you can get away with only 2.
Each Ziggy comes with a printed template that you can use to position holes and line up consecutive ziggys.
Once the project is successful, I will be in touch to get all of that information.
At this stage, the answer is a tentative YES! We are still doing a few tests...but it looks like that should be OK. Ziggys mounted in this way won't hold quite as much weight.
