We not only hit our funding goal but we are nearly to the next stretch goal!
So many people have helped spread the word about the MyBookTable plugin that we have already hit our funding goal.
It is not too late to grab the incredible deals we are giving to our backers. Not only that, but we have added the following stretch goals to the plugin.
Remember, these are funding goals, not donation levels. Once we hit these goals the following bonuses or features will be added to the plugin.
$5,000 (Goal reached!) - All backers get access to an exclusive Book Marketing Tips & Tricks webinar with Author Media CEO, Thomas Umstattd Jr. -
$7,000 (Goal reached!) - Support for LifeWay & Books-A-Million will be added to the Profesional & Developer Levels.
$8,000 (Goal reached!) - BookBaby & SmashWords will be added to the Profesional & Developer Levels.
- $9,000 (Goal reached!) - All backers get a one month membership to the Bestseller Society ($55 Value!)
$10,000 (Goal reached!) - MyBookTable Sidebar Widget added to all levels of the plugin.
- $11,000 (Goal reached!) Mardel Support Added to the Pro & Developer Levels of the Plugin
$12,000 Indie Bound Support Added to the Pro & Developer Levels of the Plugin
$13,000 or 230 Total Backers - Pre Order Feature: We will add a pre-order feature that integrates with MailChimp so people can sign up to find out when an upcoming book is available. This feature unlocks this plugin for unpublished authors or any author with an upcoming book.
Unpublished authors can grow a list of folks interested in their book. This helps grow a powerful platform that will help attract traditional publishers or help self publish. This feature will be available for all levels of the plugin.
$25,000 - We will add a book review and rating feature.
Problem: Selling Your Books on Your Website is Hard
When it comes to selling books in WordPress, authors have three options.
Unfortunately, all of them are bad:
Bad Option #1 Add the books to pages by hand. Want to give yourself a headache? Try to list all of your books on one page. Not only will the result be ugly, but your readers will flee in a panic.
Bad Option #2 Install a sophisticated shopping cart. This is a great way to spend money you don’t have. Unless you want to run a distribution center from your garage, you should avoid this option at all cost.
- Bad Option #3 Avoid Listing your books. Some authors don’t even list their older books online because it is too hard. It’s a pity, because there are people out there who want to buy your book.
Forget everything you think you know about selling your book online. We’re changing it. You won’t need SSL certificates, shopping carts, or piles of books in your basement. All you’ll need is an affiliate account and a website. Oh, and a book.
Benefit #1 - Easy to Use
We’re building MyBookTable from the ground up to be easy to use, even for technophobes. We will also build in tutorial videos to walk you through every step. The PRO & DEVELOPER levels also come with support just in case you get stuck. We will be continually improving and refining the plugin throughout the year.
Most authors don’t rank for their own book titles on Google. Scary, right? That means someone else (coughAmazoncough) is cashing in on your hard work. MyBookTable will help you retake control. Ranking #1 on search engines for your book title is extra valuable when you have affiliate accounts set up (see benefit #3).
Amazon, BN.com, and CBD.com all offer affiliate programs that can help you supplement your income as an author. You won’t have to sell your book out of the back of a van to make more money. It will also integrate with leading SEO Plugins like Yoast and Scribe.
Here are what the packages will look like when we launch the plugin. Hint: Backers get a special deal.
Get Your Website & Book Featured Within the MyBookTable Plugin
We think it’s pretty cool that you are investing in us. So we want to return the favor. We’re building a special founders page in MyBookTable that will link to everyone who donates $75+. Not only is it a way for us to say “THANK YOU!” but it’s a great way for us to send traffic your way. Traffic = potential readers.
Get Your Book Featured in the Demo Store
The top backers will get their book featured in our demo store.
That means every author who installs this plugin (yes, even the free version) will be introduced to you and your works. You get exposure and you may end up with more money. This could be a goldmine if you have a book for authors.
You will also be featured on the demo store on AuthorMedia.com (which gets over 20,000 visitors a month).
For a tech company, we’re kind of old fashioned. Remember, this plugin will be used all over the world, so please make sure the book is family friendly - something our little brothers and grandmothers can read without blushing or taking offense. We reserve the right to to reject any book we think might fail the grandma test. We’ll offer to refund the backing of any author we choose not to feature.
Early Beta Demo
This is a super early beta (from February) to show the functionality of this plugin. The final version will look and work a lot better. For instance, MyBookTable now automatically adds your Amazon affiliate info which should save a lot of work for folks with a lot of books to add.
Risks and challenges
Our biggest coding challenge is to make a plugin that works on all the different WordPress themes out there. There is no way for us to test this plugin on every theme so we are trying to write code that is flexible and can adapt to its environment. If we can't make the plugin work with every theme we will focus on the most popular themes and the themes our backers use (we will poll you). We are also going to build in a lot of hooks into the plugin so that savvy developers can easily modify the plugin to work within a specific environment. So if you are spending money for something custom, your developer should be able to hook this in no problem.
Our second biggest challenge is getting the plugin to look good while still being compatible (see challenge #1). This is a development puzzle we are confident we can work out given enough time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
MyBookTable will only work with WordPress.org sites. WordPress.com does not allow users to add plugins.
You will be able to use all of the MyBookTable features except for Amazon Affiliate integration. So, you can link to Amazon, you just won't get the affiliate commission from it. And if your state changes their law (or you move) you can turn on affiliate integration easily.
You get the full plugin plus any updates and improvements we make over the year. It is as if you bought the full version for full price. But by backing this project you get it before anyone else and you get it cheaper.
We can't guaranty it. Ultimately, Google controls the search results. There are many factors that effect how well something ranks. Some of those factors are "on page" (these MyBookTable helps with) and others are "off page" which the plugin doesn't directly effect. Most of our beta testers are ranking #1 for their book titles. We predict about 80% of authors who use MyBookTable will rank number 1 with MyBookTable. And the remaining 20% should still see a significant improvement on the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).
The authors who will get the biggest boost are the ones who need it the most. If you are Ted Decker it will be harder to rank for your books because of how many other pages talk about your books. If the New York times reviews your book, you most likely won't rank for it. It is hard to beat the Gray Lady on Google. So lets hope that review is a good one!
No you don't. Our CEO, who has no book, plans to use MyBookTable to add his book recommendations to his blog. Literary agents are backing this project to promote their client's books.
MyBookTable could also be used for niche subject sites. Are you a fan of 70s Zombie books? With MyBookTable you could create a "store" of every 70s Zombie book ever written regardless of where it is for sale.
A: Yes! This project will be fully open source under the GPLv2 which is the same license that WordPress uses. If you are a hacker/developer and want to help, you can find the development version on GitHub.
A: Development & Tutorial Videos. The money we raise will go towards finishing the development of this project. It will also go towards creating the tutorial videos and launching the plugin.
A: No! The whole idea behind MyBookTable is that Amazon (and others) do all the hard work of taking credit cards and shipping for you. All you do is list your books and get your affiliate commission and royalties.
The developer level does integrate with PayPal so that if you do want to ship your own books, you can. But we imagine most users won't use that feature.
A: No! This plugin would work great for anyone wanting to have an Amazon Affiliate Bookstore. In fact our CEO, Thomas, plans to use the plugin on his personal website to show off his book recommendations.
